Vacation Pictures

I know you are all just dying to know at which exotic, far away location DH and I spent our vacation this year. Well, this was it: Port McNeill! What do you mean you've never heard of it. Everyone who is anyone holidays there.

Neroutsos Inlet near Port Alice

Coal Harbour

Port Hardy

Shephard's Garden near Port McNeill

Telegraph Cove

Then we went home and I did laundry. Two days later we were off again. This time we headed south to Victoria.

Craigdarroch Castle

Craigdarroch Castle Diningroom

Craigdarroch Castle Bedroom (one of many)

Finally got to see some wildlife that wasn't smooshed at the side of the road.

Parliament Building Victoria, BC

Legislative Chamber

The Empress Hotel

Carriage Ride with Molly the horse.....and DH

Parasailing over the beach
No, this is neither DH nor I. We just watched.

Sooke River Potholes

China Beach Provincial Park

Port Renfrew

Kinsole Trestle

Then we went home so I could do more laundry. We were planning on heading out somewhere else but DH got sick so that was the end of our vacation. He's all better and back to work now.:o)

The B & B we stayed at in Victoria was dreadful. We got a room in the basement. Our host called it the dungeon but I called it the torture chamber. For breakfast we got eggs.....every single morning. My God! It was like being back in the Maritimes. Our host was straight out of Fawlty Towers. He bitched and moaned. He was sarcastic and he was one week away from retirement. I think he should have sold the B & B years ago.

Vacationed in Canada in the early 60s, spent most of it in Nova Scotia, a maritime. I loved it. Why are you down on the maritimes? Have they changed so much? Meanwhile, I think your photos are fantastic. Would live in Craigdarroch Castle if they'd let me (so long as I had a retinue of cleaners and butlers) and every day would be a vacation as I would visit a different part of it. Adventure. I don't suppose, since you were traveling by car, that you would just load enough clothes for days and days and not think about laundry till you got back? And then send it out?

I'm not down on the Maritimes. I'm down on eggs for breakfast, day after day after day after day....
It was my washer woman's day off.

You married quite the photographer! Lovely pics. Good times, bad times on vacation.

He. Not her.

Are you saying her chops off my head on purpose?

$150 for TEA! OMG, I will NOT be going!
I did go to Banff this week. My parents were staying in a hotel for a few days, so I took the kids to visit and to use the hotel's pool! LOL! It was a long drive, 1 hr, 40 min for a free swim. Such a beautiful place though.

Banff is a beautiful tourist trap.

And I should mention that I'm jealous of all the places you visited. I think constantly about our trip out there 2 years ago, and I have 4 rocks from Long Beach on my bedside table I look at every night.

I finally managed to get into the Comment section, but don't ask me how, and enjoyed your pictures again. So nice to hear you enjoyed your tour especially of Victoria. To think I lived so close and never got to do all those neat things.

One never seems to get around to being a tourist near their home. Except for DH who just can't sit still.

Brick, paper, ivy.....Nope, I don't think ivy does anything to brick.

Truly beautiful pictures!! Do they worry that the vines growing on the Empress will somehow damage the structure? Perhaps it's not as detrimental to stone buildings...??
Looks like you had a wonderful time.

I loved the castle, walking up those magnificent stairs, and the high tea at the Empress was fantastic!

I would love to live there but all that dusting and cleaning.....
We had tea at the Empress with our kids 25+ years ago. It was a bit pricey for a family of five but now it's ridiculous. At $150.00 (including tip) for tea for two we'll be having tea elsewhere next time. However, I must admit, it was a lovely experience.

Love the pictures. Those ornate ceilings are a love of mine. The flowers
are fantastic.
comment by elderjane on Aug 30, 2012 5:13 AM ()
Isn't that something? Directly under the ceiling there was a big railing encircled hole in the floor so you could look down onto the first floor. I had to lean over the railing a bit and face upwards to take those pictures. I couldn't get the whole ceiling in the photo so I took two from opposite sides of the hole.

What is the world coming too...... that's no way to dress for tea!

Nice that you had a good time!

I didn't mean you personally!

I know and I had brought a nice outfit for the odd dressy occasion. Just didn't have time to change into it.

Incredibly beautiful pictures.

DH takes fabulous scenic photos. So why does he always chop off my head when he's taking pictures of me?
reply by nittineedles on Aug 29, 2012 11:08 PM ()
Wonderful pictures! That first one is just beautifully composed, and I love that bedroom and the tea. We have driven that West Coast Road from Sooke to Port Renfrew, very remote. It wasn't paved then.
comment by troutbend on Aug 29, 2012 5:16 PM ()
The tea was wonderful. I just wish I hadn't felt like such a pebble amongst the diamonds. I was surprised they let us in. I thought they had a dress code.

Beautiful pictures! Makes me want to visit Canada. I have only been to Toronto, once, when I was in High School. The most memorable thing that happened was that I got the top of my ear pierced with my best friend. Very nice though, looks like you had fun.
