Brady's Bucket O' Balls (Free Pattern)

Brady’s Bucket O' Balls




Materials:
1 plastic ice cream bucket
4 skeins of different coloured worsted weight yarn
1 set of 4 Double Pointed Needles 4 mm
1 circular needle 4 mm
Polyester fibre fill (enough to stuff 8 balls)

Outside Bottom:
Round 1: With DPNs, cast on 8 sts and join in a circle.
Rounds 2 – 3: Knit.
Round 4: (yo, k 1) 8 times. (16 sts on needles)
Rounds 5 – 7: Knit.
Round 8: (yo, k 1) 16 times. (32 sts on needles)
Rounds 9 –11: Knit.
Round 12: (yo, k 2) 16 times. (48 sts on needles)
Rounds 13 – 15: Knit.
Round 16: (yo, k 3) 16 times. (64 sts on needles)
Rounds 17 – 19: Knit.
Round 20: (yo, k 4) 16 times. (80 sts on needles)
Rounds 21 – 23: Knit.
Round 24: (yo, k 5) 16 times. (96 sts on needles)
Rounds 25 – 27: Knit.

Sides:
Transfer all sts to circular needle and knit until the length of the sides is 2 times the height of the bucket. Change colours every 7 rounds. Cast off. You should have a knit bag with a flat bottom.

Inside Bottom:
Same as Outside Bottom. Cast off.

Finishing:
Remove handle from ice cream bucket. Place bucket in bag. Sew Inside bottom to sides. Poke handle ends through knit sides and replace on bucket.

Balls:
Make 2 balls in each colour for a total of 8 balls. Cast on 7 sts.
Row 1: P 7.
Row 2: Increase 1 st in every st knitways. (14 sts)
Row 3: P 14.
Row 4: (K 1, inc 1 in next st) Repeat to end of row. (21 sts)
Row 5: P 21.
Row 6: K 1, inc 1 in next st, (inc 1 st in every 3rd st) 6 times, k1. (28 sts)
Row 7: P 28.
Row 8: K 2, inc 1 st in next st, (inc 1 st in every 4th st) 6 times, k1. (35 sts)
Row 9: P 35.
Row 10: K 2, inc 1 st in next st, (inc 1 st in every 5th st) 6 times, k2. (42 sts)
Row 11: P 42.
Rows 12, 14, 16, 18: Knit.
Rows 13, 15, 17, 19: Purl.
Row 20: K2, k2tog, (k 4, k2tog) 6 times, k 2. (35 sts)
Row 21: P 35.
Row 22: K 2, k2tog, (k 3, k2tog) 6 times, k 1. (28 sts) P 21.
Row 23: P 28.
Row 24: K 1, k2tog, (k 2, k2tog) 6 times, k 1. (21 sts)
Row 25: P 21.
Row 26: (K 1, k2tog) 7 times. (14 sts)
Row 27: P 14.
Row 28: (K2tog) 7 times. (7 sts)
Cast off purlways.

Finishing:
Sew seam leaving a 1 ½ inch gap. Stuff ball with polyester fibrefill and finish sewing seam.
