She's at it Again

The dog lover who lives beside us sent a letter to the editor of our weekly rag: "LETTER: Cat owners need to show more respect for neighbours If you loved your cat then you would not let them run loose. To the Editor, And yes, the last time I checked, there are bylaws that owners of cats must adhere to. People say cats kill the rats—not here, they don’t. But they do maul birds, and when the cats get bored with them, they leave them to suffer a horrible death. Yes, you can train a cat to walk on leash—they do not need to roam. If you loved your cat then you would not let them run loose. And yes, I do have dogs, and they love to chase the cats in their fully fenced yards, both front and back. All the dogs want to do is chase and herd. Not only do I think cat owners are lazy, they have no respect for their neighbours. Cat owners wouldn’t like it if someone dumped a pile of dog feces in the middle of their lawns. Some put in pet doors so they don’t even have to get up out of their bed or chair. I have often wondered why dog owners have to pay for a license for each dog they have, but cat owners pay nothing. I have owned many cats and dogs over the years and some lived in the barn and some lived in the house, but they all got treated the same. Cat owners: please take notice and respect your neighbours. Pick up after your cats. I find it very odd here that the cats don’t dig holes—they just leave it where they do it." First of all, this woman doesn't know the meaning of the word respect. My husband doesn't feel respected when the cat hating neighbour leaves her dogs to bark their heads off at him, just the other side of the fence while he's trying to do a bit of gardening. Second, she's lying again. There are no cat bylaws in this town. She lied about the lady across the road from her too. Said she was harbouring 15 cats when the lady only had four. She says cats don't kill rats here? How would she know? She must have rats. Maybe if she kept her dogs in the house a cat might come by and kill her rats. I'd even offer the loan of one of my cats but she won't speak to us. Let us not forget the millions and millions of birds being killed by cats and how some species are becoming extinct because of cats. "All dogs want to do is chase and herd"? What a moronic thing to say. Just what does she think her murdering mongrel would do with a cat if it caught one? Cat owners are lazy because we don't want to deal with stupid, slobbering, barking dogs? So respectful of her to say we are lazy because we have a pet door. I know that's a personal comment directed at us because I don't know of any other neighbours who have a pet door. If she wants respect, she's going to have to show some. Dog owners, you stupid cow, require a license so the people who get bitten by your dog that "accidentally" got loose will know who to sue. When was the last time a cat ran out and bit you on the @ss as you walked by it's house? "They just leave it where they do it"? LOL Only in your yard, bitch. Even the neighbourhood cats don't respect you. This is the note we found in our mailbox last year.

Comments:

In Florida pool owners are required to enclose their pool area with cages. There are two doors in and out and a mansard roof overhead. When our cats found a hole in one of the panels, they widened it and slipped in and out until I finally saw it. Recently one of our upper panel screens got torn half way off. I didn't let my cats out for four days waiting for the screen guy because I know all about high flying cats.

Marg! It's so good to see you again! I found the card you sent us on Sofia's first birthday and it brought up a whole boat load of fond memories!

Sounds like your neighbor is looking to pick a fight. She needs to take up knitting. It will calm her. Maybe. She also sounds like an illiterate blow hard, but that's just a personal observation.

We have lived in six different locations over the past 44 years and we have never had any problems with our neighbours until the Walkers moved in next door.

I am an animal lover and I have had all kinds from Geese to horses. I liked all of them a lot. why must there be a choice between cats and dogs? they are both adorable. We are currently in love with Jose but I would like to have a nice inside cat. I miss the purring and I could use the mousing. You have a rotten neighbor.

Rotten is being very polite. I think of her as that psycho #####.

I am grateful we don't have any animal lunatics. We have lots of dog walkers. My neighbor has a cat and I occasionally see him and I worry about him. She really shouldn't let him out because he could get run over. My two cats have a pool deck/area for their outside recreation. They reach it by a pet door that I seal off every night. Recently a hole in the pool cage that I didn't see allowed them to run free. I freaked out when I realized what was happening. We've had that fixed. Down by the main road, people have been known to abduct animals running loose. (P.S. Welcome back -- you haven't posted in quite a while.)

How on earth do you keep your cats confined? Ours have no problem hopping over our six foot fence.

Notes like that always feel nasty. Around here, there are so many pit bulls and too much danger from cars that if I had a cat it would have to be an inside cat for its own safety.

We have bylaws for dogs. They must be on a leash or confined. There are no bylaws for cats other than they must be identifiable; chipped, tagged or tattooed.

Shaking my head! Your neighbor has some serious mental and anger issues, Marg.... Sadly, I'm concerned she might intentionally hurt your cats. Stay safe and protective of your fur darlings and your property.... Be ready to report her conduct to animal protective officials, who may be able to help you resolve this.

If anything at all happens to my kitties I will report her to the police and the SPCA. She didn't so much as set foot out of her house today. Afraid we will yell or throw the rat at her I suppose although we have never retaliated.

Oh dear... this is one of the many reasons I’m so happy we have zero neighbors!!! I hope this doesn’t escalate.

The nut bar is such a liar. No normal cat leaves it's poop in the middle of a lawn. Not when there are soft soil gardens to squat in.
