Target Nanaimo

DH and I drove to Nanaimo to visit with Mom on Saturday. We thought we'd have a look at the new Target store that had recently opened. They had some nice greeting cards but they were super expensive at $7.00 to $9.00 each. In the ladies wear the biggest size I could find was an XL and although there were racks and racks of summer dresses, they were all the same basic style; irregular hems and sleeveless. Also, the material used is the cheapest looking fabric I have ever experienced. Home furnishings were dull and unimaginative. The grocery shelves were half empty. Last but not least is there was NO CRAFT DEPARTMENT! We should have realized Target has gone over like a lead balloon. As Mom said, "It was like a bowling ally in there." You could roll a ball down any aisle and not hit a living soul. If all the Canadian Target stores are like Nanaimo's I don't expect they will be in this country for very long. Thank goodness we still have Walmart. *GASP* Did I just say that?

The Targets in this area are better than what you describe. I do think they vary depending on location. For instance a chain ladies' clothing store in Manhattan in midtown has much nicer stock than another in a less affluent area.

It is not my cup of tea. However, I just don't like the huge stores.

We love to pronounce it the French way: "Tar-zhay..." LOL

Our target stores have a full range of clothing , and they have craft supplies as well but don't sell food.
Have found they are dearer than othe stores like Woolworths and of coarse K mart who have lowered their prices recently.

Huh, I haven't gotten to the new Target in Calgary yet. A friend already told me it wasn't anything special. (I still have to go and see for myself though!)

Amazing! Target is supposed to be an upscale Wal-Mart.

Eiw Walmart ... I like Target much better, but they might be different here, sounds like it anyways!

It's always fun to hear about your expeditions. We don't go to Target because we think of it as a low-price discount store, but at the same time they seem to be trying for a more upscale image and their prices are high.
