My Shoes

When I was at the doctor's, last Friday, I told him I had been trying to go for a walk most days but after 15 to 20 minutes my right hip was in so much pain I had to go home. I also told him about the arthritic like twinges I am having in my left thumb and left knee. I have already been diagnosed with arthritis in my right thumb and right knee. How odd that one side of my body is deteriorating faster than the other side. Anyway, he has given me the paperwork to have an x-ray done on the hip. I did not go for my walk that day. On Sunday, DH, who had been working at the office all weekend, came home early because it was such a gorgeous day and asked if I'd like to go for a walk with him. I decided to wear a different pair of shoes.

Instead of the usual waterproof Clarks Wave walking shoes I paid over a hundred bucks for,

I wore my considerably less expensive Dr Scholl's runners that sop up puddle water like a sponge. I only changed my footwear because the day was sunny and all the puddles had dried up. DH and I walked for 35 minutes and there was nary a twinge from my hip. Yesterday I walked for 30 minutes in the Dr Scholl's and again suffered no ill effects. I'll still be going in for the x-ray tomorrow on my way home from the knitting circle. I expect some permanent damage has been caused by the Clarks Wave shoes after having used them for three years.

Why did I buy the Clarks Wave? In spite of the fact that they are butt ugly, they are also waterproof, comfortable and were touted as having a special sole that mimics walking in sand, which is supposed to be very good for your feet. Now I'm wondering if the Plantar Fasciitis I suffered with for almost a year was caused by those bloody shoes.

I had a pair that did damage to my feet. Took me awhile to figure it out too. Now I'm very careful about footwear.

I console (no pun intended). My closet is crammed with walking/running shoes. I've yet to find the "prefect" pair. Dr. Scholl's, eh?

Thanks for the tips on shoes. I buy my sneakers on line from one of the
"no shipping charges ever, even on returns" outfits (Shoeline, Shoebuy) because they all carry wide widths and I can't find these in the stores. My current pair of sneakers are Saukony and suit me very well. But I might try Dr. Scholl's next time. It might be that you have already solved your problem and don't need treatment.

I only wear Aciscs athletic shoes now and I change them about every 4-5 months. Plantar Fasciitis was one of the worst problems I ever experienced and it took almost a year to correct.

I have only had one pair of Clark's and they killed my feet. I vote for
Dr. Scholl's.

Clarks are supposed to be 'the thing' but it never hurts to try a different shoe brand. When I had plantar fasciitis, Dr. Scholl cured it (eventually, not right away).

Wow! I need to get some of those Dr. Scholl's walking shoes because my hip often starts hurting when I walk.

If this isn't a high five endorsement of Dr. Scholl's walking/running shoes, I don't know what is. This is good to know. My old Fila walking shoes are about to come apart at the seams, so guess what brand I'll be looking for when I go shopping? xoxo

I can't believe it took me three years to figure it out.

Sounds like it. I've had orthopedic shoes since childhood. On occasion, have literally have spent the rent money for shoes that don't hurt me.
learning to walk again right now.
Good luck. Throw out the shoes that cause you pain.

I have one pair of old walking shoes TENDER TOOTIES which I think were made for old ladies, but try and find a pair in the stores is like searching for hens teeth, very few stores carry them, and when they do they are dress shoes. I've tried Sears, I guess the next place would be Walmart.

I wore Tender Tootsies when I was pregnant and my feel were constantly swollen. They certainly were comfortable.
