Osteoarthritis

I has it.
Months ago I was suffering a lot from pain at the base of my right thumb. I made a doctor's appointment and the locum I saw told me to get X-rays of my hand done and she would let me know what, if anything, they showed. I had the x-rays taken but never heard from the locum nor Dr Craven. Today, DH got in to see the new doctor about some trouble he's been having with his arm and while he was there he asked the receptionist to check my chart for the results of my x-ray. Osteoarthritis is what it said. I guess my bowling days are over.

What an interesting way for you to find out. I'm glad it wasn't something more serious along the lines of Oh, by the way, I hope you weren't counting on keeping that thumb very much longer, looks like they're going to have to amputate.

Next time, I'll say, "Don't say you'll call me. I'll call you."

It's interesting reading these comments. I have in recent months had pain in my left thumb at the base radiating into the fat pad above the bone. It bothers me mainly when I practice the Chopin Revolutionary etude that is a big left-hand tour de force. Dang. I have concentrated on a healthy technique and it is better, but it ain't fun, as CJ says.

That's exactly where mine was hurting, only it's my right thumb.

Yep. Join the club. My right thumb joint is swollen and painful, too. Ugh.

Nowadays there are all sorts of pills, lotions and potions for aches and pains but I was really hoping they come up with a cure before I got it.

I have osteo arthritis in the joint that connects my first finger to my hand. It often hurts just to use the mouse. That joint is also swollen most of the time just as my knees are, which is the other hot spot of my arthritis. Getting older is NO fun!

I felt sorry for myself for about 15 minutes last night. I was more ticked with DH who began this little nugget of information with, "Oh, by the way,.......

Will this impact your knitting?

It hasn't so far and if it should sometime in the future I'm more than willing to change my knitting technique.

Ouch! That has got to hurt. You have been doing a lot of baking recently, I expect at it has played up a little more because of it too.

It doesn't hurt much now. I can't wrap my hand around anything big and heavy, like a full jar of pickles nor can I twist off lid the first time.
