I Almost Died

Yesterday was the first Craft Market day for this season and we hit a high of 32C/90F. It was awful. I hate the heat and was feeling quite ill by the time we were able to go home. I felt so sick I didn't even want an ice cream cone. In spite of the unseasonably warm weather, it was a rather slow day, customer wise. I didn't see any advance advertising although there was a sandwich board set up, just for that day, at a main intersection in town. The cost for space rental for the season has gone up from $100.00 to $120.00. Maybe the insurance has gone up. I had a Spring Sale, 20% off everything except the knitting supplies and I still only made one sale. The locals aren't much for craft items. The mentality is, "I can get it cheaper at Walmart." I'll just stick it out until the tourists arrive.

My apologies to the other half of the vendors who's photos I wasn't able to take due to the lighting.

I got a new toy. It's a Virobi Sweeper. It will sweep up dust and pet hair from smooth floors (hardwood, lino, etc) in only 120 minutes. I can't wait to see how Angel reacts to this big, red, mouse.

Like the iRobot Roomba vacuum cleaner it changes direction when it hits a wall, chair leg, couch, etc. Theoretically, it should have covered my entire floor in 2 hours. It was entertaining for a few minutes. Kinda like watching a slow game of pin ball.

Angel followed it around for a bit then she just kept a wary eye on it.

I am not a fan of hot weather, also being a ginger w/ pasty skin makes it easy to burn. Plus I feel so lethargic when the temps are so high, and I told the wife that i'd be more suited to living in Maine when we retired then we would Florida.

I'm definitely not a sun worshiper any more. I've been watching for signs of skin cancer for that past ten years or so.

Is Rex too old to care if it keeps bumping into him?

You poor thing, you must've been really out of it to turn down AN ICE CREAM CONE!!! I'm sure bizness will pick up when the big spending tourists show up.

I didn't realize you knew me that well.

there are craft markets here that operate all year round in touristy areas or sunday drivers outings--- some are huge in undercover market places others in country town halls.
Had to grin at that vacumn cleaner ,Cath had one given her by our friend where we we staying , she just had to try it out at 11pm at night when she came into the van --woke me up to do so

I wouldn't want to be at the craft market year round. Five months is long enough for me.
I wanted to try out my sweeper as soon as we got home but I had to charge it for 12 hours first.

When does your tourist season start? We think of the end of May being the big kick-off. Up until last year, I barely had any cabin renters in June, but lately things have been picking up and it's more spread out.

Late June to the end of September seems to be our tourist season.

Have they found a way to get it to clean corners?
comment by jjoohhnn on May 6, 2013 4:03 PM ()
The big dust bunny/cat/sheep it was dragging around snagged all the fluff in the corners.

Sorry the weather got to you. A robot cleaner would be very awkward in my house -- too much stuff. Years ago for my former two kitties, I had an automatic kitty pan. It would activate the cleaning mechanism 9 minutes after use. Picture the 2nd kitty about to use the box seconds before it is set to clean. Right. I have a photo of Sniffy (large tuxedo fellow) looking at it suspiciously. I had to put it aside and go back to a traditional pan. Sniffy was so traumatized he started pooping on chairs.

It took me a good ten minutes to find and pick up all the cat toys, baskets, bags of rovings and leaves that had fallen off plants. I even had to put up a baby gate so the darn thing wouldn't fall down the stairs. BUT, I didn't have to sweep.
Poor Sniffy.
