Boxing Day
As I understand it, Boxing Day is so called because it was the day after Christmas when the socially elite would box up last season's fashions and generously give them to their servants and other underprivileged people. I'd look it up on Wikipedia but I don't feel like it just now. Boxing Day is not a statutory holiday although there is no mail delivery, no newspapers, specialty shops are generally closed and offices like accountants and doctors, to name a few, are closed. Boxing Day/Week Sales, the closest we come to the USA's Black Friday, are rampant. However, the only items on sale are those few things in stock that weren't fit to be purchased as Christmas gifts. I actually went to a Boxing Day Sale once. It wasn't worth it.
I hope everyone had a pleasant Christmas. Mine wasn't too bad considering I have the flu. I thought it might be a touch of food poisoning from Christmas Eve festivities but I'm into day two of digestive upset so it must be flu. I feel so crappy I haven't knit a stitch in a day and a half.
I am supposed to be at my Mom's visiting with family today but I didn't think they would appreciate me bringing flu germs along so DH took DD#2 and her brood instead.
Can't think of anything else to say.
