All Better

DH says he had the same flu; pounding headache with the occasional needle through the skull and into the brain, backache so bad I could barely roll over in bed, fever of 38C/100.4F and feeling cold, freezing cold, I'm covered in wool sweaters, socks and blankets and I'm still freezing cold cold. Oh wait! DH didn't have the fever or the cold. Maybe that's why he kept going to work. Maybe that's why he had it for two weeks. He told me his coworkers complained of it getting better and then striking again. I'm not getting hit with it again. I'm taking good care of myself but if it does come back I'll have to suffer through it. Stiff upper lip and all. After insisting he and his cohorts just didn't take care of themselves well enough there's no way I'll admit it if I do get it again.
Asides from being ill I had a lovely week off. DH made me dinner two nights. The first night he fixed me a salad. The second night he made me a salad. The third night I got some leftover turkey soup from Thanksgiving out of the freezer and he heated it up. The next night I decided I'd better get well quick or I'd starve to death and we had a decent meal. Dam his mother for not teaching him to cook. I'd give it a go but he never listens to me. This coming week will be so busy. We have a house guest coming to stay and I want to sew some room darkening curtain liners for the guest room windows and of course the house needs to be cleaned from top to bottom and I suppose it would be appreciated if I chased that fuzzy green thing out of the back of the fridge and maybe I should scrub the crusty char on the floor of my oven.......What am I saying? Oh dear! I think that flu's coming back......

So sorry you had a bad time of it. I haven't had the flu for years and don't get any shots. Ed gets colds, etc., all the time. That doesn't mean I don't feel wiped out now and then, but it's never the full-blown sick in bed kind. Ed said we could have pizza tonight (translation: I don't cook -- yea).

I have Laura's Crockpot Chicken cooking as I type. After pouring the wine sauce over the chicken I licked the spoon. It's delicious. So good, I polished off the leftover wine.

The company won't notice dust bunnies.

Sprinkle some dishwashing powder in the bottom of the oven and arrange wet paper towels over it. Leave overnight. I tried this, and it really works, wipes clean the next morning.

It's actually a self cleaning oven.

Get well! When does your guest arrive?
comment by nursekim on Nov 7, 2010 9:27 PM ()
The 13th. We'll be coming for a visit but I don't know what day.

Marg, don't panic, you'll get everything together, you'll see. Most important thing is 'looking after yourself'.
Loved the salad menu (a cook book, could come in handy as a xmas present for him) Still, at least he tried - a lot wouldn't bother!
Keep well

It would have been nice if he'd just kept is flu germs to himself.

Glad to see that you are recovering. Do you ever get flu shots? I got them regularly when I was working because I had to deal with so many people. I got the H1N1 vaccine last year and did get sick. I haven't decided what I should do this year.

We've just had visitors for the weekend, so I was busy doing the extra cleaning before they arrived. It was the two guys who we went with to Barcelona, so I cooked a paella with scallops, prawns and spicy sausage last night for dinner and we drank some cave (Spanish sparkling wine) that they bought with them. Tonight we'll be eating the left-overs.

I skipped last year's flu shot and probably will this year too.
Gotta love those leftovers.

My husband is bloody terrific cook...I've always been lucky like that, the ex was also. Although, I do like to say I helped them become so good at it...

I would have been happy with some mushroom soup but he kept forgetting to buy it.

Ugh. My cold is bad enough. But the flu is the pits. This, too, shall pass (hopefully)!

Thank goodness flu doesn't last as long as a cold.

Marg, I hope you feel better soon; it's hard to get excited about company coming when you feel so bad. I am very fortunate to have never had the flu. I can't remember the last time I missed work because of illness....knock on wood.

I'm going to become a hermit. Hermits don't get sick, do they?
