Thurs Sept 16/10

The longer you stay at a place the more you find that's wrong with it. The bed was awful. We would have been more comfortable sleeping on the pine floor and it probably would have been a lot quieter too. You couldn't blink without setting off a series of creaking and groaning. The glider was unusable. When you sat down there was a pronounced list to the left and it squealed like a stuck pig with every glide.
After DH's zero pressure shower and breakfast of instant oatmeal and tea (the coffee pot has never been cleaned) we drove around looking at the island homes. The varieties ranged from dilapidated shacks to waterfront mansions. We eventually found Sunset Farm on the Studio Tour, although the numbers did not match the map we had been given by the Salt Springs Spa Resort's receptionist. Turns out it was 2009's map.

Sunset Farm's sheep.

Sunset Farm's sheep. Lots of sheep. So where's the wool?

Instead of the anticipated skeins of wool and bags of fleece I was disappointed to see a small corner of the shop with some pricey wool and tiny, expensive bags of roving. The rest of the little shop held even pricier "antiques".
We stopped at the only town on the island, Ganges, and bought a few groceries for lunch and tomorrow's breakfast. Then we went back to our "chalet" for lunch. There was no hand soap at either the kitchen nor the bathroom sinks and we had to use the body wash from a dispenser in the shower stall. No shampoo, conditioner, hand lotion, shower cap, mending or shoe shine kits like most accommodations provide.
After lunch we went looking for more wool and did some window shopping in Ganges. The second of only two wool shops on the island was closed for the season but I did find a nice Xmas gift for a sister. The shops closed up tight at 5:00PM but it was too early for dinner so we retired to our "chalet", with the single ply toilet paper, to read, knit and generally relax.
At 7:30PM we set off for the Salt Spring Inn where we planned to dine. The place was rockin' and although we didn't arrive until 7:50PM we still had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. After feasting on ribs, garlic mashed potatoes, a tasty assortment of veggies and a beer for DH and a Kahlua Bailey's Frappe for moi we understood why the place was so popular. We had no room for dessert so we headed back to our "chalet" where the jetted tub was waiting for our last pummelling soak.
DH folded the comforter into thirds and laid it on my side of the bed. What a doll! Maybe with that, a melatonin and two AC&Cs I'll get a decent sleep tonight.

Sorry your chalet was such a bust. I would definitely write the management a letter detailing the omissions and explaining why you will not be coming back, view or no.

They made the mistake of leaving one of those "How are we doing?" cards in the room and you better believe I filled it out in great detail.

so! i take it you had a wonderful time at the "chalet"---one would hope the rest of break goes well

I'm not giving anything away.

I hope the place at least had a nice view.
The place we stayed at didn't have shampoo, conditioner, etc, and the bed wasn't the greatest, but the view was amazing, it was quiet,
clean and only had a few squeaks in the floor. No jetted tub though...

You can see the view in yesterday's blog.

It looks so lovely; but lack of amenities and a hard bed can ruin a vacation more quickly than anything. At least you have a good restaurant.

If it hadn't been for the jetted tub (the plug had been replaced with a large round piece of rubber that I kept accidentally dislodging with the heel of my foot) that place would have been a complete and utter bust.

Oh my goodness. What a shame your hosts aren't more detail-oriented. I don't provide mending and shoe shine kits at my rentals, but could do. They may not be cute little souvenir looking packages, more like some extra stuff we had around the house, but you never know when a guest might want to mend a rip or polish a shoe.

It was truly disgraceful considering what they charged us. There was no phone, no TV, no internet connection and I couldn't even enter the lobby due to the stench from the spa. They also have a strict no pets policy but the lady next door came over to our deck to retrieve her cat.
