I Can See!

I purchased (for one arm, a leg and my first born son) my current glasses just over two years ago. They were top of the line; Varigray, progressive bifocal, scratch resistant coating etc, etc. I was unhappy with them right from day one. They just didn't do the job. I couldn't see very well for distance and when it came to reading, knitting or even just punching my pin number into the chipped credit card machine I had to take the glasses off to see. After two years I'd had enough so I went to get my eyes checked this morning. They took pictures of the back, inside of my eyeballs. Optic nerve, veins and something else all look good. The cataracts haven't gotten too much worse and there are no signs of glaucoma. The vision in my right eye hasn't changed much but in the left it has deteriorated. That means I'll be handing over my remaining limbs and one of my other kids (hope I get to choose). To top off my day, they used those drops that dilate the pupils so I was wearing sunglasses on this miserable, dismal, soggy day. I drove home and did the only activity I could think of that doesn't require good vision.....housework. The drops have finally worn off so I'm off to knit a bit.

Some years ago I bought glasses that shift from dark to light and also had no bifocal division. I then realized that, since I like to wear sun glasses at a funeral, that I couldn't use these to hide my reddened eyes. Also, the division was intrusive, never being where I needed it to be. So I went back to regular bifocals and I have sunglasses that are bifocals and designer (Ed picked them out, don't look at me) and now I am scared of losing them.

You can change optometrists and have your records transferred over. Don't tell me they don't do that. Or are you trying to avoid telling your guy that he's fired?

Posts regarding eyes are always popular. We all have stories! I'll spare you mine. But here's wishing you good luck on getting things straightened out.

I've been buying my glasses at the Dollar Tree for years now. Got a pair for every distance... when I can find them!

My sister does too. Cheap! But an eye exam is important.

Re your optometrist: is this the same one who sold you the glasses that never worked?

Yes, he is. I thought about going to a different optometrist but the first one has been testing me for glaucoma for years and a new guy would have nothing with which to compare my current test.

Love the picture! Tell Angel now she can't get away with anything.

Won't stop her from trying.

I can echo Elderjane's comment. After wearing specs all my life, I had cataract surgery and he put in intraocular lens implants fit to my prescription and ever since I have had perfect vision except for the need for reading glasses. It was wonderful; no glasses for the first time since 9th grade!!

My optometrist told me it could be years before I need the surgery.

My glasses are 13 years old and no longer darken when I go into the sunshine. I asked at the eyeglass place last time I was there with Donna how much new ones would cost. The woman said something about sticker shock--600 bucks. Needless to say, I'm still wearing the old ones and will continue to do so until the frames break.

I'd mention that it comes with age, but women can be sensitive to that, so I won't.

I don't get new glasses unless my prescription changes enough to make it worthwhile. Unfortunately, it seems to change every two years.

There is light at the end of the tunnel. When your cataracts are removed,
you will have great vision and only need reading glasses of the dollar
store variety.

So I hear but to have the surgery now would be considered cosmetic and I'd pay. If I wait until it begins to interfere with my quality of life, BC Medical pays.

Yeah, last time I got those drops I was wearing sunglasses indoors. I was in a mall, and saw a security guard zip by on a Segway. Thought I was seeing things.

Too blurry for close up work but I was able to drive myself home.

Looks like FOO was here--Had the same trouble with mine --its the coating that makes things dull, soon had them replaced as the coating would not come off

I'm hoping I can see out of my new ones.
