What Was I Thinking!

Yesterday I trotted off to our local electronics store and bought a PJS? PBJ? BVD? PVC? PDQ? Oh! I remember. It's a PVR (Personal Video Recorder). Have I mentioned how much I hate new technology? I still can't figure out how to make a call from the contacts list on my cell phone for Pete's sake but here I am trying to connect a new fangled gadget to my old TV (TeleVision).

I unscrewed and rescrewed and unpluged and replugged and it didn't work.

Then I remembered I was supposed to call Shaw Cable to have them activate the box thing. I had to wait over an hour before I got to speak to a real person. Thank goodness they have "call back". The nice, tech support fellow in Winnipeg activated it and it still didn't work. He had me redoing everything I had already done plus a few extras and lo and behold it works! I don't want to get all technical with you so I won't bother telling you what I'd done wrong. Now, if only some good shows would be on so I could practice recording on the box thingy.....

I'm listing this under education because I sure learned my lesson. I'll never do that again.

I LOVED my PVR. Yes, loved, in past tense. It crapped out on me for the second time, and since it's not under contract anymore, I'll be switching from the current Bell to Telus. Being able to pause and rewind live TV is seriously COOL!

I like mine already. I expect I'll love it when it doesn't take me five minutes to find the buttons I want. By the time I've found the FFwd button the commercials are over and the show is starting.

I paid to replace my PVR once already, so why pay another $150 when I can change providers and get their deals and a free PVR rental - instead of owning it...

Please don't. Daunt is a good word.

You'll really enjoy it. Around here, the mister won't even enter the room when I'm working on auxiliary components to the TV because he doesn't want to be held responsible for them not working.

I lean on my friends and Ed for tech support. (He hates it when I call Nadine, who doesn't fuss at my slowness, instead of asking him.) Waiting for my new phone -- learning curve to come. Ya did good. Dont' be daunted.

Is this your new word for today?
Daunt
verb (used with object)
1. to overcome with fear; intimidate: to daunt one's adversaries.
2. to lessen the courage of; dishearten: Don't be daunted by the amount of work still to be done.

There are wonderful things about the digital age and I rarely understand
them.

I can't say again. I can't figure out how to hook up my DVD....

I hooked up the digital box to the upstairs TV but was a cable short for hooking up the old VCR. I found the extra cable later amongst the PVR leftovers.
