I'm Stalling

I should be working on my shawl but the lace edging I chose is a little complicated, i.e. requires a great deal of concentration and I don't think I can manage it today as I only got six of my required 7.5 hours of sleep last night. So, instead, I thought I'd show you what I have recently finished:

A spinning wheel bag for a lady in my Weaving and Spinning Guild who gave me two bags full of wool to spin.

Before felting

After felting

This one was to be a gift as well but turned out too big but it looks nice hanging on my studio door.

I have been getting out and about more lately and was surprised to see this trailer parked in our new high school's construction zone.

Sigh.....If only it were full of lovely yarn instead of whatever construction junk is actually in it.

I'm taking a spinning class. It's perfect for me as it's not for rookies who haven't even bought a wheel yet but it's not for the experienced either. I've had my wheel for almost four years and have used it a fair bit, however, most of what I know about spinning I learned from YouTube. The problem with YouTube is that anyone can claim to be an expert and claim to be doing things the correct way in their video. I feel I've learned a fair bit and the class is worth what I paid. I have home work. We were each given a small ball of purple roving and a small ball of brown at the last class. We have to spin it the way she showed us and bring it with us to the next class. Sunday's class is on plying and we also are required to bring along our lazy kate (rack for holding bobbins), a pencil crayon and a drill. Should be interesting.

What a big differance the felting makes to the wool, improves the colours, been ages since I used my dye pot. This year I am going to Dye, Spin, and knit instead of just thinking about it.

I've done a lot of research and Birkeland Bros is still the best bang for your buck, roving wise. Just don't waste your money on their fleece. They throw it all in industrial washers and ruin it.

There I go again. I'm sorry. I'm not "putting down" your passion. And I don't mean to be repetitive. I'm not trying to "stick it to you", believe me. You might as well join troutbend and greatmartin--drop me from you friends list. I've offended them, too, unintentionally.

I have usual stuff? What is it?

Always fun to read your posts, despite my disinterest in your hobby.

I'm glad you enjoy reading my posts but I am curious. What compelled you to tell me how disinterested you are in my subject matter? Did you think I didn't get it the previous occasions when you told me? The first time was a faux pas. The succeeding times are just plain rudeness.

Such a deal to find a just-right spinning class! You would laugh at one of my felting attempts. I decided part of the problem was that it was chunky yarn, so the insides of the ply(s) didn't get a chance to rub together and shrink. I'm using as an envelope to hold my laptop.

Pictures! Where are the pictures?

Yeah, youtube can be misleading. Just because a guy does the same thing for years doesn't make him an expert. I got some tips the other day on chainsaw sharpening from a guy who worked in his family wood cutting business for years. Nothing like anything I saw on youtube. Be he fired up the saw when he was finished and the chain went through a log like it was butter.

That's the kind of expert who should be making videos for YouTube.

The effect of felting is very cool. Love the blended colors.
Best wishes with your class — bet you will learn a lot!

It's like cooking a meal you've never tried before and hoping it turns out good.
