A Pox on His House

I am referring to the slimy, SOB who stole my credit card number. I got the call this morning that told me my card has been "compromised" and I can no longer use it for computer or telephone payments. I should receive my new card in about ten days. Before you ask, yes, I did verify that the number the call came from was legitimate. Maybe I should ask DH for an allowance and just pay for everything with cash but with my luck I'd probably get mugged.

They say the most frequent place credit card nos. get stolen is at restaurants. Financial columns tell you to stop using cards for dining out. That does happen to be where my friend's card no. was stolen, too. Hope you get all the $$ back they may have taken.

I recently heard that a number of people on my island had their credit card compromised. They were told to report it to the RCMP who have a fraud squad that investigate. What a pain.

Don't worry, the dirtbag will eventually get caught. Then the public will pay for his lawyer, the prosecutor will cut him a deal to plea to a misdemeanor, and the soft-hearted judge will slap him keenly on the wrist.

Ed and I have several cards. I use only one card on line so my liability is limited. The card I use is from the Credit Union at the New York Times. They are great about stopping payment at my say-so. Been lucky so far. Sorry you had to go through this.

Beware of online banking. I lost a check and someone got to my account
on line. Fortunately my bank statement came out the next day when they
were trying to transfer savings to checking and I got it stopped. It
was very inconvenient. I had to go with new accounts and all that it
entails.

It's happened to us a couple of times: those massive hacker deals where they got into a store's data and stole thousands of numbers, which isn't as bad as what's happened to you. It's so inconvenient.

Yeah, I don't like using cards online especially if they want the 3-digit security code on the back. If that info gets stolen it's all over. You're doing ok tho if they aren't asking you for $$!

That really sucks. Same thing happened to me last year. The card had been used for on-line purchases in the states. It was a fight to get one of the purchases taken off of my bill. Check your bill carefully!
