Dud Night Out

Sweetheart Mystery Dinner Dance. What can I say? The dinner was edible. I believe the caterer over extended himself by trying to work four jobs in the one night. The food was rather bland, except for the dish I thought was Scalloped Potatoes. It tasted like someone had mixed in some cod liver oil. There was no dancing for me as DH was busy playing cashier, most of the evening, for those who won the auctions. The live band didn't play anything worth listening to. I couldn't figure out where the "mystery" came in. The entertainment was improv theatre which was funny if you like that sort of thing. Audience participation consisted of writing out a statement on a card, to be read and discussed by the actors, and applause. My statement was read out incorrectly which was rather disappointing. Our table mates all left early in the evening. They all had good reasons; an hours drive to get home, sick children, etc. But that left me sitting in the lobby, knitting socks and chatting with a bored security guard for hours. So, basically, there was no annual Valentine's photo, no auction wins, no dancing, no mystery and no sweetheart.

Ted is not one to buy Valentine or birthday gifts. Sometimes he does and
sometimes he forgets. If he forgets, I buy something that I want.

But do you get anything from him on your anniversary? Valentine's Day is also our anniversary.

I had such high hopes, living vicariously through you as I do. Mr. Youknow used to buy me flowers for Valentine's Day but now I think he only did it because all his younger co-workers were talking about what they were buying for their sweethearts so it was peer pressure. And then when he was collecting Beanie Babies he'd buy some of them for his collection and pretend it was a gift for me.

Last year, for the first time in 34 years I didn't get flowers. "It was Sunday and the florist's was closed."

What a bummer! Sounded like it was going to be so much fun and turned into a flop. If it had been me, I probably would have fallen asleep in the lobby.

OH NO! I can see myself now, drapped over a comfy loveseat, head back drool dribbling out the right side of my wide open mouth, snoring loud enough to be heard by the live band in the next room.

I am so sorry it turned out that way It's rotten, if you have been looking forward to an evening out. I did think to myself, that it might have been a 'hypnotist' who was going to be your 'mystery' treat - I didn't mention it previously, as I didn't want to make you 'nervous'. Hopefully, other people will have had the same disappointing evening and the organizers may improve, next years evening out.

We don't go out much so I try to enjoy myself when we do. I would have LOVED to see a hypnotist. Everyone else looked like they were having a wonderful time but then, they were all there with their sweethearts.

I think the mystery was the food? Sorry you had a bad evening. At least you took your knitting.

I ALWAYS take my knitting when I go anywhere with DH. He inevitably leaves me waiting and waiting and waiting.....
