Comunications in the 21st Century

I tried to phone my son in Alberta regarding his visit, next week. He didn't answer his phone so I was put through to his voice mail. I have a thing about talking to machines. I only leave messages when it's a dire emergency like the house is flooding and I get the plumber's voice mail or the furnace won't come on, in January, and I get the repairman's answering machine. My son has call display so, if he checks, he will see I called......but what if he doesn't check? Well, I'm pretty sure Robin (his wife), in Nova Scotia, calls him every night for a bedtime chat so I email Robin, in Nova Scotia, and asked her to give the message to her hubby, in Alberta. Just after I hit the send button on her email, guess who calls me back. That's right.....my son. Whew.....Can I go knit now?

I would have done the same. I enjoy making that kind of indirect connection to get things done, esp the kind that involves meeting someone at the airport with a frozen salmon to be conveyed to a stranger.

When we didn't have caller ID and voice mail, I missed a lot of good times.
I even considered getting an answering service.

Those voice mail thingies are the curse of the present communication system. When I get a live human being, I am always so grateful. I hate the "Press one for..., Press 2 for..., Press 3 for... Some of them go on forever and then some of them throw you into a loop so that you never get to talk to a human being. Oh, gosh, I went into a rant...
