Christmas Partay

Dh's annual office Christmas party was held in a nearby hotel this year. That's 'nearby' as in we could have walked home had we both over indulged in the bubbly.

The Barclay put on a very tasty buffet. All kinds of salads; broccoli, Caesar, pasta, Chinese noodle. There was mixed veg, mashed spuds, rolls, gravy, cranberry and a plump, juicy turkey. The dessert table was laden with squares, cakes and big slices of fresh fruit. Then, to top it off one of the staff was having a birthday soon and the office sprang for a lovely, gooey, chocolate cake. Wine carafes were placed strategically on tables and as we seemed to be surrounded by teetotalers I tried my best to empty the one filled with white wine but gave up after only four glasses. I sure can't drink like I used to. The gift exchange was next. One by one we got to pick a gift from under the Christmas tree or we could steal someone else's gift if we so desired. This year there were a lot of Christmas song singing things. The most popular being an elf hat with a big bell on the end that jerked and jiggled in time to the song it played when switched on. When it was my turn I prayed for something quiet and picked this from under the tree:

When switched on the snowfamily change colours from within. Thankfully it plays NO music. I might give the mug to the 12 Year Old but the candies will be thrown out. I unwrapped three and the foil on the inside of the wrapper stuck to the candies and is next to impossible to remove.
I hope whoever got the wine and gourmet chocolates we brought for the gift exchange enjoys them.
As usual, the DJ played the music WAY too loud and no one was dancing but I did get to chat with some interesting people. All in all, it was a nice evening out.

Those snowmen are really cute. Years ago we went to an office party for a small-town bank as guests, and just loved watching the gift exchange and the claiming/reclaiming of the gifts, hilarity abounded, and there wasn't even wine to get things going.

It is a lot of fun.

Wine was never my drink of choice. But when I did have some it always…as my sister would say…“went straight to my box”. Horny...

Glad you enjoyed it. My work is not having a Christmas party this year, not that I care, I never went to them anyway…

oooh Now we ARE talking Marg! Baileys or Tia Maria...*drool*

Hey, do you do that eggnog stuff too in Canada. I often wonder what eggnog and Tia Maria would be like.

My Dad, being the home brewer that he is, one year made up an eggnog and mixed a sh*tload of spirits with it. Their Chrissy guests got quietly hammered, thing is they didn't know it til they had to get up and function on two legs...

I would have preferred four (or more) glasses of Bailey's.

Sounds like a fun time. If I drank 4 glasses of wine, I'd be sick. One is my limit and sometimes I have two and am sorry. DJ's always are too loud. I laugh at the memory of a friend, a grandfather attending his granddaughter's wedding reception, who turned his hearing aid off. I compensated by drinking a martini.

My limit is usually one or two but there was this big carafe sitting right in front of my place setting. Thank goodness it was over a five hour time span with a big meal in the middle.
