April 1st: I spent the day in a whirlwind of cleaning. DH and I drove up to Comox to pick up our son. We parked the car just after his plane had landed (at 6:35pm) and were inside waiting for him when he disembarked. Thank goodness it's a small airport. None of us had eaten so DH took us to a pub he had been to a while ago. The "pub" had been turned into a fancy, schmancy restaurant and our mouthes, that had been watering for a nice artery bustin' burger, had to choose from the likes of beef medallions with asparagus tips and halibut in a delicate wine sauce. When the waitress came to take our orders I closed my eyes, stabbed at the menu with my index finger and quickly checked to make sure it wasn't some disgusting fish. Maybe we were just really hungry but that was one of the best reastaurant meals I've ever had. We all retired to our rooms shortly after arriving home. I could see that DS was beat and had promised his wife I wouldn't keep him up talking until the wee hours.

April 2nd: Is a blur of activity. I remember DS and I driving up to Quality Foods for my birthday cake. I made him drive so he could get used to my car. Then he went visiting at DD#1's while I went for groceries. I spent the afternoon cooking; pork in the crock pot and my macaroni and cheese cassarole for the next night. After dinner DD#2 and family and DD#1's family minus DD#1 came over for cake and ice cream. DD#1 had to go to work. This happened last year too. Next year I'm going to postpone my birthday until everyone can make it. It was great! I made a big pot of coffee in my new coffee maker, the grandkids were covered in cake and ice cream, conversation was interesting and I got to open my presents. DH didn't give me a present. He said it's kind of expensive and he hasn't got the money yet.

April 3rd: DS and I were up early, showered and dressed and on the road to Nanaimo to see my mom. We had a very nice visit and she took us out for lunch. We then headed to Parksville to visit with the M-I-L. That's when she gave me all the weight loss articles she had been collecting for me. We arrived back home at dinner time and I heated up the mac and cheese. It was one of DS's favourite meals when he was a kid. We spent a relaxing evening talking and had another early night.

April 4: I can't, for the life of me, remember what we did. I do remember taping the season premere of Battlestar Galactica that night and yes my son gets his love of science fiction from me.

April 5: After breakfast we watched the Battlestar Galactica tape together. Then DS packed his backpack said his goodbyes to his sisters and we were on the road again headed for the Comox airport. As we watched our son walk across the tarmac to his waiting plane DH slipped his arm around me and his voice broke when he said, "It wasn't long enough." DH took me out for a sumptuous, birthday dinner at the German restaurant.

April 6: DH went to work and I did laundry, knit and missed my son.

April 7th: DH's job took him out of town, for three days, early in the morning. My mother and Baby Sister came to Port for my birthday visit. Mom took us out for lunch, again and then we toured a new antique shop in town. Baby Sister suggested that DH's "expensive" gift might be a car. Damn! Now she has my hopes up.

Hmmm.......So much for "in a Nutshell".
