Spinning in Public
I took my spinning wheel to the Crafters' Market today.

It generated a lot of interest. One German lady (tourist) in particular was all excited and dragged the rest of her party over to watch me spin. An older gentleman went crazy over my Goin' Green shopping bags but left without buying one. He came back about 20 minutes later with his adult daughter in tow. She thought he was nuts and told him so, "It's only a bag, Dad." but she couldn't dampen his enthusiasm and he bought one on the spot.
I had this sign taped to my table.

People kept stopping to ask what I wanted pet brushings for. One lady said her cat had beautiful long brushings and when I asked if she would save them for me she said the cat was dead. A fellow told me he would bring me bags of his dogs' soft, multi-coloured brushings. After I thanked him he said they were about one inch long. I was disappointed it was so short but I'll probably never see him again anyway. Lots of people have promised me their pets' brushings but no one has delivered yet. While I was taking a break, DH stayed at my table and told another fellow to bring me his dogs fur, even though the guy told him he didn't brush the dog but cut the fur off. He will probably be the one person who will actually follow through with bringing me his dog hair and I will have to throw it out as it is no good for spinning.
It was freezing cold down at Harbour Quay today. I had to ask DH to go home and get my coat and some fingerless gloves because my hands kept freezing when I tried to spin. Because of the weather there were fewer people wandering around the Crafters' Market but, surprisingly, I had the most customers today. The organizers have asked if I would attend the local Christmas Craft Fair and another CCFair not too far out of town to give spinning demonstrations. I'm flattered but I don't think I will as it would cost me $80.00 and $70.00 respectively to rent a table to sell my wares. It would cost me nothing if I'm just giving demonstrations but it's in November when it will be pouring rain and cold, two conditions that are not at all healthy for my $600.00 wheel. Also, I don't think I would enjoy spinning at a noisy, people packed craft fair.
