Now I'm Scared

At 10:51 pm the phone rang. I got up to see who would be calling at this time of night and I see the call display says Blocked Call. Well, I'm not answering it. The last time I answered a Blocked Call it was from The M-I-L's alarm service. Apparently her personal alarm had been activated but her favourite son didn't answer his Blocked Call and I had to call him, late at night, to tell him to go check on his mother before the cops broke down her door. The time before that, I had to wake DH out of a sound sleep to go down town to check on his office as the burglar alarm had gone off. DH is out of town again and I'm not about to go check on his office. If it's The M-I-L, there is nothing I can do. We don't even live in the same town. Then I started to feel guilty. What if she's having a heart attack. What if she's, God forbid, dying. Now I'm scared. What if it wasn't any one's security company. What if it was some miscreant calling to find out if anyone was at home.......and I DIDN'T ANSWER THE PHONE!

I don't answer the phone unless I recognize who is calling. We have an answering machine... so if it's important... leave a message. If not, then it wasn't important enough for me to answer the call.

my telephone is for my convenience. There is no law that says I have t answer it, whether I look to see who is calling or not. My Mother's rule was, if my Father's Law Office line rang, we were obliged to answer it. (Take a clear coherent message, check the spelling on the name, repeat the phone number back. God help you if you failed.) Otherwise the phones in the house went unanswered during meals, meetings, recitations, and readings. I had a strange childhood. I did learn to speak English.

People who really need to contact you would not phone with call blocking on. It's their own fault! It couldn't have been that important. Don't worry. (I know, it's hard not to.)

Then they'll call back! What if you weren't home? You wouldn't have been able to answer the call, so the caller has no way of knowing if you were even there. If it really is that urgent and no one else can be reached or will do, then the caller will try again!

wow! It sounds like you were smoking the ganja for that one, or at least your brain thought so!
Hope everything turned out ok though.

Marg, we can imagine all kinds of things. Hopefully, it wasn't any thing serious. I have never put caller ID or such on my phone. There have been many times that I wished I had it, but after your experience, I wonder if it is a good thing. I'm hoping that all will be well.
