Port Alberni is Winning

I really want to say, "Port Alberni has won the title of Ultimate Fishing Town" as with only 3 and 3/4 hours left to vote we are ahead by 14,265 votes. I don't know what happened to Nestor Falls, Ontario. We were neck and neck for the longest time. Then the voting website went down "for maintenance" (I think it just couldn't handle the volume of votes pouring in.) and when the site came back up Nestor Falls had lost a lot of (fraudulent?) votes. They never really recovered. I don't know how many days it will take the WFN (World Fishing Network) to check all our votes and announce the winner but I will let you all know when it's announced. To everyone who voted for us, I thank you. Port Alberni thanks you.

What is the result of winning -- more tourists, more revenue? We have a fishing bridge nearby that, according to the hype, is world known. Me, I fish at the supermarket.

In addition to more tourists and increased revenue we win a $25,000.00 community donation to be used towards fishing-related initiatives benefiting local anglers, a half-hour show produced by WFN featuring the winning town (some good publicity for a change), a trophy commemorating the winning town as WFN’s Ultimate Fishing Town, $2,000.00 shall be awarded to the town serviced by Shaw Cable that receives the most votes and last but probably most important of all a sense of pride in our city. What fish I am willing to eat comes out of a can.

Your town will be the center of the fishing universe, emitting a great gleaming light visible from outer space, it will look like sunlight glinting off the scales of a salmon.

We are now in the lead by over 16,000.
