Plantar Faciitis

Inflammation (irritation and swelling with presence of extra immune cells) of the plantar fascia can cause heel pain and make walking difficult. Some risk factors for development of this problem include foot arch problems (both flat foot and high arches), obesity, sudden weight gain, running and a tight Achilles tendon.

I saw a physiotherapist for this condition yesterday. I had been suffering with it for two or three months so I asked Nursekim if she knew anything about it and she said she'd had that and it took a long time to go away. I braced myself for bad news and asked, "How long?" She replied, "About two weeks." That's when I made the appointment with the physiotherapist. He poked and prodded while I screamed and just about kicked him in the chin. He watched me walking away from and towards him and declared I had a pronounced pronation. I pointed out that I'm probably walking differently than usual due to the pain in my heel. He hit my aching heel with lasers to reduce the inflammation, stuck two inch wide black tape allover the bottom of my foot and sent me on my way with some exercises and strict instructions to rest my foot. I see him again on Monday and again a week after that. So far today it still hurts but not bad enough to take my daily dose of ibuprofen. Now, with all this resting what can I do to keep busy? Oh ya, carding and spinning and knitting. :o)

Take good care of it - it's a difficult problem to treat.
A doctor said that I have it, but I didn't believe him. I think he just wanted to sell me orthodics. (sp?)

Been working/stretching/balancing my feet ballet wise for 40 years, so that may be why I have not suffered this. It sure does sound painful. Hope the therapy works quickly. You have my sympathy.

Mine lasted about 3 months before it finally went away. I went to a podiatrist for help; he made an insert for my shoe, recommended physical therapy and lots of stretching. Healing is a very slow process. Good luck.

Had it for 3 months last year. No troubles since!

One of my dearest friends is being treated for this, Nitti. Hers was highly inflamed before she got treatment, but it's slowly getting better. It's been about four months and it is much much better. She does her therapy exercises every day, which is really important, got a special orthodic shoe insert which helps a lot, too. It may take awhile, but you are on the way.

Yes, buy a set of new Balance especially made for this and it really helps.
but There are devices made to stretch the foot at night while you sleep
and aren't nearly as expensive as othod
tics. I have orthodics and I would try that and gel pads first. My orthodics were very expensive.

Before I went to physio it hurt so much I was afraid I'd have to get myself a walker.

I had it several years ago, and it took at least 6 months to go away, but maybe it took that long because I didn't go to the doctor about it. It hurt the most when I got out of bed in the morning. I bought a Dr. Scholls shoe insert for my sneakers and wore them as much as possible. It finally went away and didn't return.

Oh, I like that "didn't return" bit.
