Nut Bar Magnet

Yes, that's what I am. It happens most often on the computer. I know the anonymity of the internet appears to make people take leave of their senses. They believe they can say things to me that wouldn't even pop into their heads, let alone spew out of their mouths, if we were face to face. Just because I posted an uncomplimentary restaurant review on a website that exists for that purpose, this nut bar wriggled her way out of the woodwork to say this:

A question regarding your review of Starboard Grill
Regarding: Port Alberni: Starboard Grill: Disappointing
From: Pamela D

I was very surprised to see your review of the Starboard Grill . It is a first rate restaurant that would survive even in Vancouver!

I respect her opinion but then she just had to add:

I suggest you not go back and just stick with MacDonalds!!

Now, I admit I should have just hit the Block Sender button but foolishly replied with this:

Thank you. I feel so honoured to receive a private message from the chef's mother. What was your question?

To which she replied with this bit of wit:

I'm afraid you are mistaken and you owe him an apology. His mother, I believe, is dead.
Why would you think I am his mother?
Do you live in a trailer?

It was at this point that I realized she is just one of those trouble makers we see a lot of on the knitting forum. So I decided to end it before she descended into spouting gibberish:

I don't answer personal questions. Stop contacting me.

But it was too late:

Ha, ha, ha!!! Stop contacting me? Don't publish on the internet then!

So I reported her for harassment. For now, all is quiet on the western front. I'm hoping this looney tunes will turn her attention to someone else.

Can't get away from grudge makers if you post an opinion on the internet. Now that I have Kindle, I am asked to review a book I have read. Then I get people disagreeing with me. Hey, it wasn't my idea. Most memorable recent exchange was that I got a free book, not knowing what it was and it was all about growing through religion. I wrote this book wasn't for me. I was pretty graceful, but people are sometimes threatened if you are not of the faith and she had to lace into me. Go figure.

Rather bizarre.

If it helps, I've managed to attract a nut bar by having perfectly legal topsoil fill placed in my pasture. There was a complaint, and it's going to cost a lot of time and stress (and maybe $400+) to sort it out.

Oh Marg, you have missed out no ever having a payday. It is caramel rolled
in salted peanuts and it is one of my favorites. No chocolate but it
doesn't need anything.

Also, I have to chuckle at your title, as I imagined and sort of expected to see a photo of a Payday peanut bar magnet stuck on your fridge.

I've never seen a Payday bar. Is it like an Oh Henry with fudge and caramel and peanuts and chocolate.....darn! Now I want some candy.

I agree with Laura's comment. When checking out restaurant reviews on sites like that, if I don't see a some polite, constructive non-raves along with balanced raves, I get very suspicious that paid shills are promoting the restaurant or vice versa. Clearly, your review objector knows the restaurant operator enough to know the chef's mother has passed away. From a PR point of view, and I worked in PR for quite a while, arguing with someone who had a poor experience never works. In fact, it makes the situation worse and reflects very badly back, not on the reviewer, but on the restaurant. Too bad people lose their polite filter online. You are so right about people saying online what they would never say face-to-face.

I really don't understand why they are objecting to my opinion. I suppose if I told them I didn't like peas they would berate me for that too.......although, come to think of it, I have teased DH for insisting on his hot chocolate being hot enough to blister the roof of his mouth.

It must not be a very good restaurant, struggling for good reviews or they wouldn't have to hire a shill to defend them. I think a lot of the online restaurant reviews are rigged - both ways - the competition posts bad reviews, and the owners post over the top good reviews. When I saw the title I pictured sweet and salty mixed nut bars stuck to you; made me hungry. Heard from the wrong number lady lately?

I just now clued in to who the wrong number lady is. You mean the Alzheimer's lady, right? She hasn't called in ages. I expect/hope she has a nice room (without a phone)in a care home somewhere.
reply by nittineedles on Nov 27, 2012 6:28 PM ()
Nope. I expect they sent her a 'behave and play nice or else' message.
