Nova Scotia's Burning

My son just called from Nova Scotia. He's moving his family from a rented house they had been living in since February to a cabin for one week before they can move into their newly built dream home which was supposed to be ready June 1st. The rented house had been rented to someone else as of June 15 and they have to move out now. After one week in the cabin my son's family of five should be able to move into their dream home. However, yesterday, some brainless idiot decided to burn stuff in his back yard during extremely windy conditions and his fire got away from him. My son's dream home is in Porters Lake and they are keeping their fingers crossed that their new home won't be going up in smoke.

PORTERS LAKE, N.S. — Two houses have been destroyed and three others damaged by a large brush fire in Nova Scotia that is burning out of control in a rural area east of Halifax.

Officials say the homes that were damaged have had siding scorched or melted.

The fire began Friday afternoon in the Porters Lake area.

Shortly after lunch time today, officials said the fire had spread to three kilometres in width and, in places, was 15 kilometres long.

Deputy chief Roy Hollett of the Halifax Regional Fire Department says the fire is unpredictable and a call is being made for volunteer firefighters to help battle the blaze.

He says it is too early to say how the fire started, but the cause in under investigation.

I'm hoping and praying that your son's house won't be affected by the fire.

Let's hope the dream home is spared from any damage at all, but let us be thankful that the delay has meant that he and his family are out of harm's way. The loss or damage of the home would be devastating, but the loss or injury of your son and his family would be tragic. Let's be thankful for the goodness in all that seems so completely bad.
