Healthy, Wealthy and Wise

Well, one out of three ain't so bad. Just call me Mother Owl. I had my appointment with Dr Duck yesterday. The quack tells me I am now officially and medically diabetic. It took me over a day to wrap my head around that. I'm still not sure I quite understand what it means. Although my lab tests were, to also, check my good cholesterol and iron for that hemochromatosis thing he didn't give me the results. I had to ask him as I was being hustled out of his exam room about my iron. He didn't say, "You do not have hemochromatosis." He did not say, "You are a carrier for the gene." He did not say, "You don't have the gene." He said, "Your iron is fine." I asked him for another prescription for Reactine to get me through the summer and instead he gave me five boxes of assorted brands of prescription antihistamines. It wasn't until I got home that I discovered there were only two or three pills in each box.....a two week supply. Man, I wish I could switch doctors but if there are any doctors in town that are taking new patients they will only take you on if you have no other family physician in town.

On a happier note, the fire in Nova Scotia is almost out and my son and his family are safe and sound and so is their new home.

Diabetes isn't usually an easy thing to accept right away, but it's not that difficult to monitor if kept under control. Many people, including my partner and my brother, have been living with it for awhile and find it not to be as much of a pain in the neck as it was in the beginning.

Glad to hear about your son. I've been wondering.
The sample meds with one or two packs irk me. Like they really do that much good.
I wish there was another doc for you too. I guess they're always so busy that they lose sight of what they should be doing and just trying to get through it.

Bummer. I know one day I will be diagnosed as diabetic, and it won't be the end of the world, but not a happy thought because I don't like to have to think about what I'm eating or plan ahead and all that. You'll do okay because you are smart and resourceful.

I am looking for a switch of doctor. You have to ask them
a lot of question and keep asking him or her no matter
how stupid that it may sounds.I am getting fed up with this.
I will see him next month and give it to him.
Oh!blood test are fine. But yes, what are the numbers?
They are rushed and do not want them to spend too much time with the
patient.
