Last Night

Actually, it was this morning at about 1:00 AM. Angel was snoozing on the bed when she suddenly jumped up and started growling. She jumped to the floor and marched down the hall to the back door, growling all the way. By the time I caught up to her she had her nose pressed against the pet door flap and was growling like there was a raccoon on the other side of it. I pushed her out of the way and slid the board into the pet door so nothing could get in and Angel couldn't get out. Then I stood and listened. For about two minutes I heard nothing and then all hell broke loose. My first thought was a cat fight in our driveway then I thought those aren't cats, they're dogs. I ran back to the bedroom window which has the best view of the driveway. DH was up and looking but we couldn't see anything. All I could hear was painful sounding yips and yelps (I pictured a Chihuahua.) and very loud vicious growling (I envisioned a Baskerville hound.) I yelled, "Something is dying." and ran back down the hall, switching on the outdoor light as I passed the back door. I ran down the basement steps and grabbed the only thing that looked like it was both protection and weapon worthy, DH's briefcase. I opened the basement door, which leads out to the driveway, and gave my best mama bear growl. Silence! Whatever was out there was gone. Meanwhile, DH had looked out the upstairs back door and left it open while he came down to cower behind me (just kidding Sweetie). I turn around and seeing the open door I panic. "WHERE'S ANGEL?" DH grabbed a flashlight and ran outside to search for her in his pjs while I searched the house. We keep forgetting what a chicken shite she is. I found her peeking out from behind the couch in the basement rec room. Excitement over, we all went back to bed. I waited for my adrenalin rush to dissipate but it was well past 2:00 AM by the time I fell asleep.

Angel would have pulled an Eloise and chased the dogs away. Never fear
that a dog is a match for a brave little bundle of fury. Even foxes aren't
safe.

What a scary night you had,I would not have been brave enough to open the door but it makes a good story. Is any one in your neighbourhood missing a cat or dog?
