We're Moving

DH's deceased mother's house has sold and the new owner takes over next month so DH and I have been making runs to Parksville, loading up the truck and Jeep with anything and everything and moving it over here.

We now have her books, dishes, cutlery, bath and bed linens, bits and bobs, odds and sods. We also brought home any furniture we could fit in the truck; end tables, step stool, chairs and such. The movers will be bringing her piano, antique desk, dining table and chairs, three large bookcases, TV and stand, double bed, antique dressers and bedside table, her favourite chair and ottoman, huge, heavy coffee table and end tables......I know I've forgotten some things but you get the idea.

It would probably be a smaller list if I stated what we are leaving in her house. Even though we are getting rid of some of our stuff (queen size bed, old kitchen table and an ugly lamp) and our daughters are taking some of their grandmother's stuff, we will still have way too much stuff in our house. I'm too disorganized to have a stuffed house. I'm beginning to feel like one of those hoarders you see on TV. I'm really hoping DH can at least part with some of her books (she was a voratious reader). Dressers will be going in my craft room to hold yarn, fabric and various and sundry other craft supplies.

What a nice homey looking house with the sun on the front windows like that.

It's a lovely two bedroom rancher with a separate cottage (used to be an old garage) she used for guests (it would have been my studio). I wish we could have kept it but she lived in a nice area and we couldn't afford it.

Some things you can't bear to part with. I know my kids would just have one of those sales where it is full price one day, the next it is half
price and then at 3 0'clock everything is 75 per cent off. We have cherished his mother's things.

When Ed and I moved to Florida and packed up his apartment, including what I had added from my loft, it was a major effort. Included was stuff from his late wife's first husband's first wife -- in other words, several generations. Ed won't let me get rid of their monogrammed linens. It's all in the crawl space. Let the banks take care of it when we go.

DH has already expressed which items are dear to him. I'm just a scavenger.
