More Hats

DH's secret society fills shoe boxes with necessities like razors, deodorant, tooth brush and tooth paste, etc to give to a local shelter at Christmas time. A few years ago I noticed I had an awful lot of odd balls and leftover bits and pieces so I asked if they would like me to knit some hats for the shoe boxes as a way of using up my scraps. They said yes. I said how many. They said 52.

So for two years I was loom knitting hats for charity. As I have used up most of my odds and ends I thought I'd give this year a miss

but then DH's club gave me a beautiful arrangement of Christmas plants and a lovely thank you card. I felt so guilty I went out and bought a couple of balls of yarn to begin knitting hats for this Christmas. Then, yesterday, a friend of mine who has had to quit knitting due to problems with her hands and shoulders brought over four boxes and a number of plastic bags full of yarn.

That should keep the shelter in hats for at least three more years. Big thank you to Karen.

By the way, I am so jealous about that plant arrangement. You can re-plant that amaryllis bulb after it is done blooming and it will grow again.

Are you putting pom-poms on your hats? I'm thinking about it for the more whimsical patterns, but haven't decided yet. I have done nothing else (well, almost nothing) but knit hats for the past several months. They are piling up in a big plastic tub. Let me know if you want some.

No pom-poms. I figure I could knit another hat from the yarn it would take to make pom-poms for 10 hats. What are you going to do with all your hats? Donate or wear a different hat each day in Winter? Where are your pictures? I want to see your hats.

I showed my Mom your site...she's a knitter, too. She loves your work!

Thanks. I'm glad she "loves" it.
Would she like to knit some hats? Just kidding.

That's a nice thing to do, and how great to get the materials to do it. I'm trying to knit a baby hat with a spool knitter just now, for my friend's baby.
