Dr Craven / Duck is Not Retiring

He is just making a career change. Gathering from what I went through today he plans on becoming a drug salesman for AstraZeneca, makers of Crestor. As I sat beside him he took two on-line tests that showed I have a 4 - 5% chance of having a stroke or heart attack within the next ten years. Add to that the fact that I also have Metabolic Syndrome and the percentages get bumped up double to 8 - 10%. He told me about a study for Crestor that was supposed to last five years but was stopped after a year and nine months because it far surpassed their expectations and they felt it was unfair not to let the placebo group use it too. I began to have flashbacks of the vacuum cleaner salesman I had let into my house long ago in my naive youth and his descriptions of all the dust mites, mold and dead skin cells floating around my home and what his vacuum could do for me. Craven put his foot in it when he told me, "If you were my wife I'd be putting it on your cornflakes or oatmeal ever day." He did everything but give me a free sample. Then he told me to go home and think about it, which I must admit was very unsalesman like. I suppose he still has a lot to learn.
How many doctors tell their patients they should be taking a particular medication for their health and well being but instead of handing that patient a prescription tells them to "Go home and think about it."?

3-4% is not bad at all. Crestor can increase blood glucose levels, so may not be great if you already have metabolic syndrome. Maybe google crestor vs lipitor and check out the MedicationSense.com site.

It's all very confusing. My plan is to loose some more weight, walk fast, sprinkle everything I eat with oat bran and stop having blood tests in the Spring after a Winter of sitting on my butt eating junk food. I'll bet in three to six months I won't need any cholesterol lowering drugs at all.

I agree that most doctors would give you the prescription and then leave it to you to think about whether you wanted to get it filled or not.

Nitti, I heard a research study about Crestor that said it was so beneficial that all over 50's should be on it. It was on ABC evening news.
My Dr. put me on it about l0 years ago and my blood work is now fine and
I have no side effects.

From the research I've done, I will undoubtedly go on it. Did your doctor write you a prescription or tell you to go home and think about it?
