Cut off from the Rest of the World
Physically, anyway. DH and I tried to go to Nanaimo this afternoon but as we neared the top of The Hump. We came across a line up of vehicles all stopped, just sitting there watching a plume of black smoke spiral up into the air. We eventually found out a truck was on fire. We don't know if there was an accident or if the truck just burst into flames. We sat waiting for a while as the line up kept growing behind us and then we heard the highway, the only route out of Port Alberni, had been closed so we turned around and went home. After arriving home we heard that the hwy had been opened to one lane traffic. We'll try for Nanaimo again tomorrow and just to make sure nothing happens to thwart our plans, I'll be taking my camera along.
