Cat Bowl/bed

I thought Angel might like a nice new bed to sleep in and maybe it will keep her off the chair in the livingroom. I started knitting this massive sack a couple of weeks ago. Feels like it weighs about 2 lbs. My arms sure got a workout. Angel was glad I was actually allowing her to cuddle up to my knitting. It was knit with worsted weight yarn, doubled so it is quite thick.

I felted the sack this morning and stuffed it with three, queen size, bed sheets so it will hold it's shape while it dries.

The top band is two strands of chocolate brown.
The middle band is one strand of chocolate brown and one strand of moss green.
The bottom section is two strands of moss green.

The little light coloured specks are pills from being felted. I usually shave my felted items to get rid of the pills and fuzz but I will leave this cat bowl/bed as is.

I'm taking bets on whether or not Angel will use her new bed. Odds are two to one in favour of her ignoring it after an initial sniff.

Angel is indeed a privileged cat.

Privileged? More like spoiled rotten.

She better like it... just pretend that you DON'T want her to use it... Then she will just because.

I even tried the cat nip but it's a no go. She has one week to try it out, then it becomes my wool bowl.

If you put some precious somethings in it, and say "Angel, now I want you to stay out of here" and ignore her when she goes to it, she'll probably love it and spend a lot of time there. Until she discovers another new favorite spot. From a people perspective, it's very nice, though, and if she doesn't like it, her loss. We have a cat condo in Las Vegas, and Eloise liked it for awhile and spent all day there, and then she avoided it. And Chitty wants nothing to do with it.

I don't understand. She loves paper and plastic grocery bags. Maybe she thinks it's a new pet carrier for taking her to the vet.

It is a beautiful bed! I hope Angel loves it.

Ya, she loves it so much she's ignoring it.

I suggest sprinkling some catnip on/in it...

I already thought of that but it didn't work on her scratching post.

Why did it have to dry?
comment by jjoohhnn on Mar 29, 2013 2:15 PM ()
The answer you chose was more helpful than "it was wet".

To felt it, I put it in an old pillowcase (The pillowcase keeps all the fuzz and blobs of felted wool from plugging up the washing machine.)and wrap an elastic band around the open end so the cat bed stays inside. Then I fill the washing machine with HOT, soapy water, an old pair of jeans and the pillowcase with the cat bed inside. After agitating for 20 minutes I put the whole thing through the rinse cycle and let it spin for 1 minute. Then I remove the cat bed from the pillowcase, pull it into shape and stuff it with sheets so it will hold that shape while it dries. It will take days to dry.
I could have just said, "Because it is wet." but what fun would that be?

I love it!
