Alone at Last

He wasn't here for quite two hours but it seems like he was here all day. At least I didn't fall asleep. I couldn't. I had to keep my eyes on him. Every time he got too close I flinched. The Four Year Old was little Mr Snotbag today. He was hacking and coughing all over the place. I was reading Hansel and Gretal to him and forgetting his cold I grabbed his arm, pretended to eat it and ended up with slime on my face. YUUUUK! He wanted to go shopping today but there wasn't anything I needed so I told him we'd stay home and I'd make some brownies. That's when I found out this poor deprived child has never had a brownie. He didn't even want to lick the spatula because he thought he wouldn't like it. He is now an avid fan of that tasty chocolate treat. Although it's by sheer luck. The kid is a chatterbox. I mean he NEVER shuts up. I don't bake very often and never when he's here but today was the exception to that rule. He chattered while I creamed the butter and he chattered while I melted the chocolate and he chattered while I sirred in the melted chocolate, flour and nuts and he chattered while I preheated the oven and he chattered while I poured the batter into the pan. He was still chattering when I licked my finger and realized I'd forgotten to add the sugar. The entire time it was in the oven baking and the fridge cooling it was a constant, "Is it ready now? Is it ready now? Is it ready now?" He won't be back until next Wednesday. Hopefully he'll be over his cold by then.

Taxing but fun and those kids that talk a lot are usually very bright.

The child had NEVER had brownies? You must have a serious talk with his mother. This may rate as child abuse!!I know sometimes when they never quit chattering it hurts the ears, but wouldn't you love to go back just one day to when your children were that age to hear their chatter again. Enjoy it! Time is fleeting.

Wish ;I had a "chattering tot" to bring joy to my day. All my gkids are nearly grown and the ggrands are too far away to see. I have one little one here in Houston that is about 12 weeks. Maybe I can keep him soon.

I speak for all mothers of children out there - thank you Grandmas of the World for looking after your grandchild, even if they drive you crazy, even if it wasn't quite two hours and felt like all day. Thank you. It is much appreciated.

Ugh... and we have to watch grandbaby#3 on Saturday. Fortunately she can't walk yet, or talk yet, but she sure can make noise if she wants too! Come to think of it, she can make quite a mess too. Hmm... better check my appointments... maybe I have to be somewhere else that day!
