100 Mile Fleece & Fibre Fair

This was the 2nd annual Fibre Fair. I was devastated to miss last years due to illness. This year, I made it and it was all I had hoped for and more. It was held at the Bradley Centre where I go to the Thursday Spinners, about a 40 minute drive from home. We arrived just after opening time, 9:30am, to meet up with sister, Nursekim and Mom, MaryC. Two very large rooms were packed with vendors.

DH made three trips out to the car to load our purchases into the trunk.

His contribution to the success of the fair was this pair of alpaca work socks he bought for himself at the ridiculously low price of $20.00. Trust him to find a bargain.

I'm pretty good at sniffing out the bargains too.

I pounced on this 300g cone of teal (Harris Twee) for only $6.00. I think it was priced so low because they had it labelled as "Unknown Materials" but it's definitely wool and soft enough to be merino. The colour is so much richer than in the photo.

I snagged the 578g bag of beautiful, grade 2 (grade 1 is the best), alpaca fleece for only $25.00. (When DH saw this photo he thought Angel had curled up in the bag.)

A full 454g of 100% mohair from the Angora Goat. (Angora comes from Angora Rabbits.)

This 454g bag of 60% Wool and 40% Mohair was on sale for $17.00

I just could not resist this gorgeous 240g ball of burnt orange and gold Ramboulet Suffolk Cross. Unfortunately,I don't remember what I paid for it nor do I recall the name of the vendor because when I took it out of it's bag to photograph it, I found a dead moth stuck to the wool. I'm praying it didn't lay any eggs before passing.

My final fibrey purchase was two matching 112g skiens of 60% Mohair and 40% Merino for $12.50 each.

There was more than just fibre for sale and I bought this adorable sheep necklace. I was very tempted to get the matching earings but I didn't have enough cash left. Maybe I can get the earings next year.

By the time we left, it was going on lunch time so the four of us met up at the Coombs Country Market for a bite to eat.

Kim gave me this cute kitty with yarn ball ring. Thanks again Kim. I love it.

After lunch we did some serious shopping in the Market.

Even DH got in the mood and found these two plant hangers made of wraught iron.

He even, extravegantly, sprang for a Goats on the Roof cloth bag.

I found this great walking stick. Maybe it will help me to walk further on my arthritic knee.

And in keeping with the morning's activities, it sports a carved ram's head; also appropriate as my zodiological sign is Aries.

It was late in the afternoon when we finally parted, with hugs all around, and went our separate ways home. I don't know about anyone else but I had an utterly, fantasticly, wonderful day!

Why wasn't I invited????? My Newcomers Group went for a tour of the alpaca "farm" last Wednesday but I missed it because I had a phlebotomy appointment in Victoria. I heard afterwards that the owner will be opening up to the public and selling alpaca stuff soon. Isn't that worth a visit to Pender?

Are you serious? You would have come all this way? There aren't too many local fibre events but I'll let you know about the next one if you want. I think you should keep some leaches in an aquarium for such conflicts.
An alpaca shop! Christmas is coming and I have a birthday every year.

I'm with you, it was a fabulous day, and your pictures are worth a thousand words. Maybe I could get some printed up to put in my Craft book. Sent you a message earlier to thank DH for his endless patience, hope it arrived o.k.

Rats! Still no passports. Oh well, If I bought any more fibre stuff I'd have to rent a storage locker.
