The Tree is Up

We had planned to put it up and decorate last night but DH was struck down with some sinus, head cold bug so we put it off until tonight but he only had the strength to set the tree in it's stand and then he went to bed. I filled the stand with water and tomorrow I'll string the lights. After dinner we'll decorate. If he's not up to it I suppose I'll be decorating by myself, fortified with a piece of dark, fruit cake and a double rum and eggnog. I have a sneaking suspicion that he'll be giving me his sinus, head cold bug for Christmas.

See Angel on the couch? She's pretending to be asleep. As soon as I turn my back she'll be guzzling the tree water. We've tried every way to keep her out of it, over the years, but nothing works. Maybe rust is actually good for her.

I'm not doing much this year. I've sent no Christmas cards. I didn't make the annual Nanaimo Bars nor the annual Butter Tart Squares. The fruit cake is *GASP* store bought! There will be no extra cooking for those who don't like brussel sprouts or sweet potatoes (because they won't be here). Maybe once the tree has been decorated it'll feel a bit more like Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you and DH. I've learned that vacationing in December makes it difficult to finish all my Christmas preparations. I did not baking and we sent no cards or our annual letter. Since we didn't return home until Dec. 23rd, I only managed to do minimal decorating. This was our first Christmas alone since the ill-fated trip to Arizona when Dad had the car accident and Mum broke her arm. Maybe you and DH should have joined Mum and nursekim for Christmas this year.
I hope you enjoyed your quiet Christmas.
PS You have another beautiful tree.

Show us post decorating, too! Mine's fake so it's been up about a week already and stays up through Jan. Squishing it back into the box is such a drag.

If I had an artificial tree I could/probably would just throw a sheet over it after Christmas and uncover it next December.

Putting the tree up early is a thro-back to a job I worked years ago. My days off used to be split, except on that weekend, so it was the best way to get it all done at once. These days I figure if we're going to spend the time on it, might as well have enough to to look at the stuff. A neighbor across the pasture had is Christmas lights on the house lighted the same night we did the tree. Still a lot of people doing outdoor decorations around here. The town is nicely done up too. I might try to do a video on Friday night, but I don't know if my camera is up to low light vids.

Hope you get a good video. I'd love to see it.

I didn't have the heart to put up a tree this year but we put Rex's stocking
on the mantel.

Angel doesn't get a stocking as she doesn't like cat treats, cat nip has no effect of her and she has more toys than she knows what to do with. However, we do let her play with the wrapping paper, boxes, ribbons and bows on Christmas Day.

What a pretty tree. I'll bet it smells good, too. Angel's heart was probably gladdened when she saw it coming in the door.

It smells great. Unfortunately, my allergies kicked in as soon as the tree was brought into the house.

BTW Donna made for my Christmas gift a pair of those slippers I asked about awhile back. I saw them upside down drying after she applied that non-skid stuff to the bottoms.

No fair peeking! I expect to see a photo of them on your feet Christmas day.

Wow! We put the tree (artificial) up on Thanksgiving weekend. I'm already thinking about putting it back in the box next week. My parents used to leave it up until after New Years since folks would visit a lot that during those weeks, but not me. December 26 and I'm tired of it.

Buster loves drinking ground water. A puddle is a real treat. Even runoff from the roof. I figure there are minerals in it, maybe he even prefers the taste to well water. They usually know what's good fro them, so I don't stop him from doing it.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Why do you put your tree up so early?

Merry decorating! It's likely to put you in the mood.

I hope so.

I'm with you on the "no Christmas cards". All emails. And, you know, I like your tree with no ornaments!! So natural looking.
