Quiet Christmas

I found out yesterday that DD#1 and family are spending Christmas with her in-laws and DD#2 and family are having Christmas at home, their home, so DH and I will be having a quiet Christmas together. We can open gifts at our leisure, enjoy Angel as she frolics with the gift wrap, boxes and ribbons and eat whenever the food is ready.

It's no good. I've been trying to find the silver lining but it's going to be a quiet and lonely Christmas without them, this year.

Keep thinking "peaceful" rather than "lonely" - works for me usually.

When I get too depressed I just think of last year's Christmas; the best ever.

There is an a foundation: Kids with Food Allergies Foundation -- if you Google it and register on that site, you will get info and recipes for treats your grandkids might tolerate and like.

Thanks. I'll give it a look.

When I was first married in New York, I became an honorary member of a large family, friends of my late husband, who lived in Staten Island. We spent Thanksgiving and Christmas with them every year. At least 20 people at the table. After Jay died, I traveled to Staten Island to have Christmas dinner with the remaining daughter, a divorcee. Everyone else had passed, including her two brothers and sister, all much younger than me. It was just the two of us. It was more poignant, remembering former times, than if I had eaten a sandwich at home and watched TV.

When are the grandchildren going to get their gifts and a plate of cookies from you?

What kind of treats can I serve grandkids with sensitivities to refined sugars, food colourings and eggs? We are expected to deliver the gifts before Christmas.
