Spam Much?

A couple of years ago I gave my e-mail address to a business that was here in town. There were about 10 of us on her mailing list and when I realized she was using CC (Carbon Copy: everyone could see everyone else's e-mail address) to send her e-mails to us, I politely tried to explain the use of BCC (Blind Carbon Copy: no one could see anyone else's e-mail address). She promptly deleted me from her mailing list. After a couple of months I was reinstated. In December she moved her business to a town that is about a 45 minute drive away and her mailing list has expanded to 87. As I don't want 86 strangers having access to my e-mail address I have asked her to remove me from her mailing list. It's not like I can just hop in the car and drive over there for her sale anyway. I wonder how the other 86 feel about her use of CC. Maybe I should e-mail them and ask.LOL

My kid's teachers do that... so I match names to emails and keep them in my Blackberry contacts should I ever want to harass, err, contact them.

My cousins do that - the big list!

I suppose it would be a bit dicey asking your relatives to remove you from their mailing list.

It becomes spam if you're not able to remove yourself from a mailing list.

True but I'm sure she has already removed me from hers.

We get so much spam that it takes forever to delete unwanted e mail.
I sympathize.

At least it's not as bad as having to put down my knitting, get the cat off my lap and run for the phone only to find it's Penny calling from Pakistan to tell me my computer might have a virus.

How do you do a blind carbon copy? Mum and I have been wondering.

Just enter the recipient's e-mail address in the Cc box if you don't mind everyone seeing who else you sent that message to or in the Bcc box if you don't want them to know. If you do use Bcc put your own e-mail address in the To box.

You could notify her internet service provider, or whoever provides her email service, like gmail or earthlink or whatever. Or tell her you're going to.

She's not sending spam. Everyone on her mailing list freely gave her their e-mail address. She is just ignorant of proper procedure and putting everyone on her mailing list at risk of being spammed or worse.

Well, yeah, you should "reply all" and ask them how they like the idea.

It's tempting.
