Mid Island Cabinets
On February 21st we got the ball rolling to renovate our upstairs bathroom. We spoke at great lengths with the salesman and chose a company in Nanaimo to custom build a vanity with countertop and 15" (width) linen tower including all hardware. First he e-mailed a drawing of what he thought we wanted. It was not what we wanted and I sent him a corrected drawing. Five days later he e-mailed our first estimate of $2567.00 and told us he would give us drawers where we wanted shelves and 4 big drawers where we wanted 6 smaller drawers. I again corrected his vision of our new bathroom and he sends me a new estimate of $2713.00 based on him using maple for the vanity and tower. I let him know, again (I thought he had written all this down when we originally spoke to him at length) that didn't want maple but oak. Now the estimate inches up to $2770.00. At one point he finds out what the size of the new sink is and claims they will have to reduce the width of the tower to 12". On March 13th he postpones an appointment we have for the 14th to the 21st. On the 20th he sends this:
"Hello
I was just going through and checking numbers on your vanity ... turns out that there was something missed in my original estimate
The price will be 3213.25
I apologise for the missed items on the 1st set of numbers"
He wants to come out, on the 26th, so we can sign the contract and to check the measurements Don sent him but on the 25th I get this e-mail:
"I am going through all my info ... and i seem to have misplaced all your info; address phone number" and after trying to pin him down to a time range that he will arrive he tells me "2ish". Don held off coming home for lunch until 1:30 but by 2:30 when the guy still hadn't arrived Don had to go back to work. When the salesman finally did arrive (no apology was offered) I told him Don had to leave. He said he was held up by an accident on the highway and I told him it would have been nice if he had called to let us know. He chit chatted for five minutes, he took one measurement and left me holding a contract that promised to have agreed upon drawings attached (there were none) and wanted 50% upon signing, 40% a week before they install the custom made pieces and 10% upon completion. We didn't want our bathroom to look as sloppy and unprofessional as the fellow we had dealt with so we didn't sign the contract. To this date he has not even contacted us to find out what's happening. We have ordered new lighting, tap sets, show curtain rod and towel bars. We have also found a new custom cabinet maker.
