Blameless Teacher
Blameless Teacher
Back in March, our 13 year old grandson was taking orders for Purdy's Chocolates. It was a fundraiser for his school band trip. Don & I were happy to help him out as it was for his scho......Well, THAT'S a big fat lie. You KNOW we ordered a truck load of chocolates because we are chocoholics. The orders were turned in to the school on March 23rd. The school received the chocolates and had the kids distribute them the beginning of April. We did not receive our chocolates. Our daughter (grandson's mother) called the school to find out where our candy was and was told she (the teacher in charge of this fundraiser) hadn't given them to our grandson because there was one box missing from the order. She said she was waiting for whoever had received it by mistake to return it. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. She must lead a very sheltered life. So she gave grandson the goodies to deliver to us along with a note that gave us 3 options: #1 We could wait for that "honest" soul to return it.
#2 We could reorder the missing chocolates for free because we'd already paid for them.
#3 We could have a refund.
We decided: #1 The jerk had probably eaten them by now.
#2 Easter would be over by the time we got the chocolates.
#3 We'll take the refund, thank you very much.
I then checked the items in the bag against the order form and discovered there were an additional 3 boxes missing. School is closed for Easter now so on April 7th I called the teacher in charge and our conversation went something like this:
Me: There are a total of 4 boxes missing from the bag.
She: No there aren't. I checked them myself.
Me: Yes there are. The box you know about and 3 more boxes.
She: There can't be. I checked them myself.
Me: Well, there are. There are 4 boxes missing from my order.
She: Well, I don't understand. I checked the bags myself.
At this point I'm about to ask her if she thinks I'm a liar or if she thinks my grandson is a thief.
She: Oh, wait a minute. Let me check these "extras" over here.
Extras? What does she mean, extras? Nobody orders extras for a fundraiser.
She then tells me what the 3 "extra" boxes contain. Not to my surprise they are the 3 boxes that were not in my bag. She says she'll give them to my grandson to deliver to us.
Now, as to the refund, she gives me more choices. I can pick it up at the school or she can deliver it to my house. I'm not wasting gas due to her mistake so I chose the home delivery. She asks where we live and when I tell her she sounds happy like she lives in or frequently drives past this area. She says I'll have my refund by the end of the week. That was the last time I spoke to her. However, on April 20 I did phone the school and leave a message stating that I still have the box of chocolates that I did not order and she can take them with her when she comes with my refund. May 5th will be 4 weeks since I spoke to that teacher in charge. If she hasn't brought my refund, we're eating the chocolates we never ordered. I sure hope this teacher, this pillar of the community doesn't pass along her irresponsible attitude to her pupils. This woman blamed the students, she chose, for incorrectly filling the bags....the same bags she claimed (3 times) to have checked herself. She blamed my grandson for not delivering the 3 missing boxes that were not in a bag and had no one's name on them. She blamed my daughter for not checking the bag to make sure everything was there. She's probably blaming me for placing the order. She's tossing the blame around like a priest flinging holy water at an exorcism. Someone needs to tell her, when you take on a job, YOU are RESPONSIBLE. If someone else screws up, YOU are still RESPONSIBLE. Let's hope she not put in charge of anything else.
