Happy Birthday

We celebrated Don's 70th birthday tonight. My gosh he's getting old, whereas I don't feel any older than the day we met. I gave him a box of Tim Hortons decaff coffee pods and a coffee crisp chocolate bar to keep him out of the chocolate chips. His other gift from me is a Cowichan Style Whale Sweater which he will thank me for just as soon as I knit it for him.

I made him a cake. It's the first scratch cake I've made since I was 12 years old. That one, as I recall, did not turn out well. This one was delicious! Apple spice cake with caramel frosting. YUM!

Sounds like a lovely birthday. Very handsome photo of Don. Incidentally, he and my husband share a birthday, 9/9. But Ed was just 78. We did the elegant dinner thing at the Tarpon Lodge in Pineland, on the water, lovely setting, great food. I had a margerita. It was also our wedding anniversary. It was great that the lodge did not sustain damage during Irma. After Charley, in 2004, it was closed for months.

Actually, the Tarpon dinner was my birthday, which is 9/26. For Ed's, we went to Sandy Hook. The place is loaded with seafood restaurants.

The cake sounds yummy. A new kitten would have been a great gift. It has helped us so much to have Jose after losing our sweet Rex.

70 is the new 40. I've always loved spice cake, we don't see it talked about much any more. I'd like to make one, but if I sit still long enough, I'll get over it. Did you get a new cat yet?

Happy Birthday to Don! Seems the way to a man's heart is still through his stomach
