Classmates.com

Classmates.com is a money grubbing, sleazebag website!

I got the 3 month paid membership in March 25, 2015. Then last month Classmates took $39.00 from my PayPal account for a year's paid membership. I discovered I had unknowingly authorized annual payments to Classmates. If you have a free membership with Classmates don't let them do this to you. If you have shelled out for a paid membership within the past 12 months go to Account in Classmates. Then Account & Billing to turn off Automatic Renewal or you'll get charged $39.00 one year from the time you took out your paid membership, whether it was for 3 months, 6 months or a year. You will also need to go to PayPal and cancel your authorization for Classmates to take any more of your money.

"Classmates has agreed to pay $11 million after 22 attorneys general alleged that the Seattle-based company engaged in deceptive billing and marketing practices. The company was being investigated for its partnerships with third-party groups, which automatically charged consumers for services such as discount buying clubs and travel rewards programs. The attorneys general claimed that users of Classmates and FTD.com — the floral delivery service once owned by Classmates.com parent company United Online — were automatically enrolled in the third-party programs during the sign-up process. Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson, along with 21 other attorneys general, reported the payout for users of Classmates and FTD.com."

Classmates is nothing but a scam. When I emailed and told them I didn't want the paid membership they said they would cancel it just as soon as my current paid membership ran out. Huh??? You can check out members complaints here: https://classmates.pissedconsumer.com/

I never signed up for classmates but got a couple of freebie inquiries. Thing is, at my age, most everyone from those days is gone. So problem solved. Is that a good thing?

And they are so persistent, sending crap emails even when you ignore them

I don't sign up for anything that asks for more than an email address. I grew up in a Queens NY neighborhood called Middle Village. Almost all the kids went to the same Catholic school. There are two pages on fb for people from Middle Village. Why should anybody have to pay to find people or whatever it is that these specialty sites offer.

Yup, walked past there every day going to Christ the King and the M train. Used to have friends on the third stop (Whitecoff?).

We should share Queens memories some time. Do you remember Neiderstein's?

Huh. A while back Classmates suddenly charged me when I hadn't signed up for a paid anything. Paypal dismissed my complaint. I let it go because of a reunion this year, but I'll check on what's going on. They'll surely renew the charge.

I never use PayPal. Not reliable. Just use one credit card for anything on line and that way if something goes wrong, I know which card has been compromised. Correction: Amazon's card (Chase) charges me for all Amazon purchases, but I never use the card itself.

I thought that died when Facebook took over. Sorry you had to go through that. Hope you had a little fun with it at least!

I went through this because Ted enrolled in it. It is a scam to trap
the unwary.
