Bare Bones - a Review

DH invited me out for dinner tonight. He asked where I would like to go and I told him I'd like to try a burger at The Starboard Grill. He said he'd like to go to Boston Pizza so I prepared my taste buds for a cheesy pepperoni and mushroom and was practically drooling by the time we got there. As we approached we noticed the full parking lot and could see through the large windows that the place was packed so instead we headed over to Bare Bones, a local fish and chips eatery.

The restaurant is located in an old church. I love the decor.

You can see the old church pews set up for diners in the back. DH and I sat at the little table for two on the left side of the photo. Below is a view of the interior front.

This is what my dinner looked like.

One piece of halibut, beer battered English style, cole slaw, home made fries and hidden behind the fish were two tartar sauces. DH was hungry. He ordered two pieces of open fire grilled salmon and had the only dessert on the menu, key lime cheesecake. The food was delicious! The background music was pleasant and the whole place was nice and quiet. Maybe it has something to do with the height and curve of the ceiling.
If I could improve on anything it would be to add another dessert, even if it's just vanilla ice cream. Other than that, I give the food, service and ambiance two thumbs up.

It looks so good! Is there seasoning, herbs perhaps, in the fish batter? It has been a long time since I've had good battered fish like that.

Couldn't find their menu on line but you can choose cod, halibut or salmon. Then you can choose the beer batter, crumb batter or open fire grilled. Then you choose fries and small cole slaw, half fries and half slaw or half fries and half Cesar salad. Then you get to choose two from a large assortment of sauces. I tried a piece of HD's salmon and it was delish.

What a charming place. I'm going to get Ed to read this. Maybe that part about "invited you out to dinner" even though it wasn't, say, to celebrate the second coming, will get through to him.

I'm still trying to figure out why he asked where I would like to eat dinner when he already had his mind set on pizza.
