#%&*! M - I - L

Not mine (this time). It's DD#2's M-I-L aka The Control Freak. DD#2's cozy baby shower for ten is being held in my home, tomorrow afternoon. Less than 24 hours before the shower The Control Freak calls and asks if it's OK that she's invited six more people. This is AFTER I've ordered the cake, AFTER I've bought the ingredients for the veggie platter, AFTER DD#1 has bought the ingredients for her meat and cheese platter. But what I'm I supposed to say, "No, it's not OK. You'll have to call them back and tell them they can't come." She said the extra guests will bring some food with them. They'd better, 'cause otherwise they won't be eating. She asked if I needed some extra chairs and I told her, "No, but I could use some more living room." I'm not buying another cake. We will all just have minuscule pieces. I'm not buying any more veggies or dip. I can just fit 16 in my living room so long as someone doesn't mind moving their chair every time anyone wants to leave or enter the room. The worst thing about it all is that I can't bitch about it to DD#2. I don't want her to feel bad in any way. It's her baby shower and I want her to enjoy it. These extras had just better be bringing super, deluxe gifts.

I'm sorry but that is hilarious. Put them out on the patio... it's October, it's Port Alberni - how bad can that be... bahahaha! Just think, every grandchild gets to have one evil grandparent and it isn't you!! Mine slapped me everytime my mother looked the other way - Evil woman!!

Something like that happened for one of our daughter's bday parties. A couple girls had their mothers invite them to the party the day before. Um, we didn't prepare for that many guests.

Good luck with it. That's a lot of people

Suggestion: Suggest to dear old MIL that she bring a cake as well. After all, she is the grandmother of the baby, too. She should be more than delighted to help out in that way. She might even get inspired and contribute other things as well. Who knows? Have fun anyway and spoil that baby like there's no tomorrow. After all, they are the only TRUE innocents.

Can't wait to 'see' these party crashers. Sounds like there was enough of them for that M-I-L to have had her own baby shower, but she's just too lazy to go to the trouble.

The ControlFreak should get the tiniest piece of cake…

Hopefully they’ll be worth it…

Jeez... Usually I'd say the more the merrier, but not this late in the game. Why doesn't DD #2's MIL throw her a second shower? People do it all the time. In any case, I hope it all works out for you.

Her own friends, I suppose? Hopefully they do bring food and extra good gifts to make the squeeze worth it.
