Another Profitable Day

at the Crafters' Market. My big seller was the colourful Mohair shawl I knit, recently. A lot of people loved my white Kitty in a Basket but there were no takers. I love it when a crowd gathers around my stall to watch me spin. At first I thought I'd be nervous and start making mistakes but even if I did none of the onlookers would be any the wiser. I love it when they ask me questions and I'm chatting away with them as I spin. Most find the hand spun dog hair fascinating. They inevitably take a quick sniff to see if it smalls like dirty dog and are more often than not surprised to discover it doesn't. I find I dislike it when people maul everything on my table and then walk away without a purchase but I dislike it even more when they stroll past my table without so much as a glance.
I did make a purchase at one of the other stalls. A lady was selling handmade soaps, balms and lotions and I bought four handmade soaps to felt.

These are bars of felted Ivory soap. No washcloth is necessary.
I found it difficult to felt the corners as the wet wool kept wanting to slide off. The lavendar and honeysuckle scented soaps I bought today have nice rounded corners and should be easier to felt.

I've never heard of felted soap — fascinating! Is all that's required to turn wool into felt just getting it wet and rubbing it? Why don't wool socks turn into felted socks in the wash? Obviously, I have a lot to learn....

I won't be felting any soap soon, but your samples look good. No skill with fabric or wool here.

Yippee! Another successful market. I was showing a friend my Lambert on Saturday and she said she'd love to have one. Could I put in an order? Her birthday isn't until October.

No problem. I'll get to work on him when we get back.

The felted soap is very interesting. Do you knit little bags and felt them, then put the wet bag onto the soap to dry?

Felting soap is a messy, skin wrinkling project. You take a bar of soap and wrap some unspun wool around it. Then you get it wet and pat it and gently rub it until it starts to felt. Keep wrapping more wool around the soap. Keep patting and rubbing until all the soap is covered and the wool has felted. This isn't something you can do when you have a few spare minutes. It takes a while. If you want to try it, I'm sure YouTube has some instruction videos.
