Nutella

My grandson, The Six Year Old, loves this stuff. Unfortunately he is allergic to one of the ingredients and is not allowed to eat it. I on the other hand had never even tried it. Safeway had it on sale this week and the calorie content was the same as the all natural peanut butter I buy so I thought I'd give it a try. O! M! G! It is ambrosia, nectar from the gods. It's like eating a chocolate frosting sandwich only it's healthier. The main ingredients are advertised as being hazelnuts, skim milk and a hint of cocoa powder. The label claims there are no preservatives or artificial colours. Unfortunately it also states the first and most abundant ingredient is sugar and the second is modified palm oil (one of the top three bad oils we shouldn't be eating). Then comes the hazelnuts and next, the hint of cocoa and then the skim milk power. That would indicate that there is less than a hint of skim milk power in the entire jar. Guess I should have compared the labels BEFORE I bought it. Did you hear about the guy who lost 86 pounds eating nothing but McDonald's food? If he can lose 86 lb on the Mickey D Diet I wonder how much I could lose on the Nutella Diet.

This is so often mentioned and featured on cooking shows...the Italian shows, especially. I love the stuff and, like a lot of other yummy things, if not overused (yeah, in moderation), it is quite acceptable. In spite of the no-no's that are in it, it is still healthier than some other snack foods...but it is often used as an ingredient in some pretty creative dishes (yeah, like mostly in desserts). I love it!

I haven't heard of it before either. From the looks of it though it seems to be something I would love.

Hmmm, I've seen that here as well. Had no idea about the ingredients, though. Fortunately, my incredibly yielding palate has not tried this most addictive substance.

It's amazing on animal crackers.
A hint of cocoa - yeah right! You taste the chocolate before the nuts.

Nutella is big in Europe. It is the "peanut butter" of some countries.
