Moving Day

Thankfully, I have lots of things going on to help take my mind off Peaches. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who sent their condolences and support.

The movers are bringing DH's mother's furniture this morning. Paths have been cleared through the house and our furniture has been shifted to make room but God only knows where we'll put it all. We just might have to have a garage sale in September. Unfortunately both DH and I have pack rat tendencies. Even the garage is filled to capacity. We haven't been able to park a car in there for years......no, decades. They should be here any minute. I'll post pictures later.

The remnants of a life -- how's DH with all this?

He's relieved the move is over. His mother passed away over a year ago and was never a Mama's Boy.

I cherish some of the things that were Ted's mothers because we have the
same taste.

My M-I-L and I did NOT have the same taste. I like relatively simple styles in oak and she liked thrift store cheap and dent and scratch clearance. I think most of her nice pieces were chosen by her husband.

The other day we saw a Holmes on Homes show (out of Canada) where the people were having problems with condensation and heat getting around in their house. He thought part of the problem was their house was completely filled with stuff they'd inherited from their parents. But they didn't have any great attachment to it all, and were fine with him having his crew haul out several dumpsters full. I don't think I could have let go that easily, so I really admired them.

Our daughters are taking some of the furniture and a lot of the linens, dishes, cutlery, etc. Otherwise we would have left that stuff in the house. What is left in the house (ancient luggage, her clothing, 8 horsehair chairs, mismatched dining table, 2 microwaves, her extensive collection of plastic bags {don't ask} and little things like staplers, magnifying glasses, tattered cook books and coat hangers will be sent to a local charitable thrift store. I personally believe her vacumn cleaner should be donated to a museum.
