I haven't given up yet. My hip is doing very well, however, my feet have been giving me some trouble. I think I've mentioned the black toe, blood blister and various other, regular blisters. So I made an appointment with a foot specialist. Apparently I have some inherent foot problems that could be improved slightly by purchasing $500.00 orthotics. Well, THAT'S never gonna happen. She took my old running shoes and exchanged them for a brand new pair that are a half size bigger. They are great. I could have walked all 8 lanes of the track, this morning, if the elementary schools hadn't been having their annual track meet today. So instead, I walked the streets for 45 minutes. It's going to take me a while to get back up to my 10,000 step goal but I now have confidence in my ability to do just that. I'm also knitting several pairs of wool footies to wear in my new shoes.
My new size 10.5 (think Hobbit feet) shoes.

I have the best luck with Rebok's with that funny sole but I can't imagine getting up to l0,000 steps. I walk a mile and get very tired.
Amazing what a new pair of shoes can do! I have to wear what I call my "clown shoes" to work. They're extra long, extra wide and lime green/shocking purple. But they have gel soles and they save my feet! I think its from Dad's side - Scott has same problem
Glad you're getting back on track. Those are New Balance shoes, a good product. I got an expensive orthotic when I had foot surgery years ago. I used it in short boots I wore a lot in New York. I am not using it anymore. Doesn't seem to make a difference. I buy all my shoes on line now because they offer wide widths that I need. Can't find these in stores.
