PORT ALBERNI — A B.C. Supreme Court judge has ordered the man charged with killing a local nurse to stand trial next year.
Port Alberni resident Kim Winslow Rothgordt, 41, is charged with one count of second degree murder in the death of James Shannon, 52.
Rothgordt appeared in Port Alberni provincial court in person accompanied by defense counsel Clint Sadelmyer, who was acting for partner Bert King.
The court has ordered a publication ban on evidence presented at the hearing. However, Crown counsel Gordon Baines discussed some of the day’s proceedings.
One witness testified, after which the prosecution sought a committal from Judge E.L. Iverson. A committal is an order for the accused to stand trial following a preliminary hearing.
The defense did not make any submissions and the judge ordered the committal to stand trial in Supreme Court.
“We’ll be fixing a trial date Jan. 19,” Baines said.
Day one of the preliminary hearing was Friday, Dec. 12. The preliminary process was scheduled by the court last May, and was set to take place between Dec. 11 and Dec. 23.
Maybe this will be more intereting than I thought.
