Bigleaf Maple Syrup Festival

This morning we headed down to Duncan to partake in the festival but when we arrived we were told the parking lot was full and we would have to go to the old Rona building where we could park out car and catch a shuttle back to the festival grounds. DH asked, "Where's the old Rona building?" and was told to go down there and turn right, with some vague hand gestures thrown in for good measure. He tried following the cars in front of him but we never did find the old Rona building so we went for lunch at the White Spot, instead. After lunch we found a yarn shop, The Loom.

I had a good look around the very small, very expensive shop that was overflowing with every yarn you would ever need and came away with two balls of sock yarn, four cards of reinforcing yarn for socks and a box of knitting pins. DH amused himself by checking out the wicker furniture shop and the leather furniture shop. Next we stopped at a large, two story 2nd hand store. They didn't have any yarn to speak of but I did find a couple of nice Aran sweater patterns. Then we headed home and both of us agreed that we'd had a very nice time, in spite of missing out on the Maple Syrup Festival.

And if you had made it to the festival, would you now have a lot of maple syrup you would then have to eat? Maybe the God of "Slim and fit" was looking out for you.

No maple syrup for my pancakes, waffles or French toast and no maple fudge. The God of Slim and Fit gave me up as a lost cause decades ago.

Gosh, you mentioned reinforcing yarn for socks and I can remember my Mother "darning" (I think that was the word) my Daddy's socks when they got a hole in the heel. Wow, you just brought back happy memories for me.

you had to reach back to a dim memory to remember the word "darn"? Sheesh, youse is really young.

DH handed me a pair of hand knit wool socks and pointed out the hole in the toe. With pleading eyes and a quiver in his voice he asked, "Can you fix them?" I handed them back and said, "No. You should trim your toenails more often." I don't darn socks.

Such a cute little store. The other day I was wondering if you get snow up there on the island, now I know.

I should have, could have taken my own photo but I got this one off the internet. This picture was taken during The Snow of Nov 2010. I don't think there is any snow on the entire Island.
