For those of you who have never met The Alzheimer's Lady:
The Alzheimer's Lady
November 2, 2007 / by nittineedles
Mrs Black began calling us sometime in July of this year. She phones us an average of once a day. She only called once yesterday but four times the day before that and today, so far, she has called twice. The first time she phoned she asked for Peggy. I told her she had the wrong number and she proceeded to explain to me that she was trying to find her sister, Peggy Whosit, by phoning all the Whosits in the phone book. Unfortunately, Peggy is a nickname for Margaret and my name is Margaret Whosit. Even more unfortunate, for us, is the fact that Peggy's deceased husband's first name was Dwayne and my husband's first name is Dwayne. I suggested she phone the other Dwayne Whosit in the phone book. She thanked me for my help and hung up. Thirty seconds later she called back and asked for Peggy. I told her she had just spoken to me and reiterated that she should try the other Whosits in the phone book. She apologized for bothering me and hung up. Thirty seconds later she called again and again asked for Peggy. This time I politely told her there was no Peggy at this number. That she had the wrong number and hung up. I did not answer the phone when she called thirty seconds later nor have we answered her calls since then. Thank goodness for Call Display. I'm at a loss as to what to do about this situation. I'm thinking I should call some authority who can check on the poor woman but unless they take her phone away I don't see that helping very much. I suspect her family already knows about her condition and that it just hasn't progressed to the stage where she needs to be in a home. Our only options are to have our number unlisted or change our last name. I think I'll try to talk Dwayne into the unlisted number.
Please note, Black, Dwayne and Whosit are not the real names.
