Our 1st Day in Nova Scotia

The flight to Nova Scotia wasn't too horrible, aside from the little, fat guy who stole my window seat and then waited until DH and I were asleep to announce his need to use the WC. Our flight was the red eye and I think I got maybe two hours of sleep in total, that night. It was morning when we set down. DH and I picked up our rental car and drove into Halifax to see the sights. Our first stop was The Citadel in the middle of the city.

We tried wandering around looking at the sights...

City Hall and Parade Square
but we were so tired we couldn't see straight and it was unbelievably hot and humid so we headed for our B & B.

Our first night was spent at The Verandah B & B in downtown Halifax.

Our hostess wasn't home when we arrived around 2:00PM but had left a note telling us where our room was and to make ourselves at home in her unlocked house guarded only by her friendly, old pooch.
The place was tastefully decorated and our room was relatively cool. It appeared to be clean but on closer inspection I discovered everything was caked with dust. After being awake for almost 27 hours we fell on the bed and napped for about three hours.

After our nap we freshened up and set about finding a restaurant for dinner. Our hostess, who had woken us up when she came in with her two grandchildren, gave us convoluted instructions to three different eateries. We took the GPS with us and still couldn't figure out her instructions. We eventually came across a Greek restaurant and enjoyed a delicious dinner there. That night, after showering (fighting with the shower curtain for water rights and searching aimlessly for the wire rack that held our soap and shampoo), we decided we would never, ever have a free standing aka claw foot bathtub in our house. We also didn't get to relax in her living room as the grandchildren were in there with the TV blasting and our hostess had stretched out across the full length of the sofa. The full breakfast she served us the next morning was delicious and I had my first taste of coffee in over two days. That kinda made up for the disappointing part of our stay. We only stayed there for the one night and then we were off to visit our son and his family who live near Halifax.
